Thanks for all your comments. My friend and I have arrived to the conclusion that it is a mangy fox. Take care and happy hunting.

I say it is a Possum/Coyote cross.

Fox with pretty bad mange. Seen one crossing the road near the West Monroe/ Constantia line in NY during daylight hours. I got a real good look at it, and one thing is for sure,they are ugly critters when they get the mange.

Fox would be my guess. Too tall for a possum

As stated....from just looking at the head with the pointed ears its a Fox that lost is fur off of its tail or it had the mange? :) ;)

Yep, a possum has a lot more of a snout and shorter legs. It's definitely a mangy fox.

I am surprised that no one looked at the ears first. A possum has mouse like ears that are hairless. This animal has furred black tipped triangular ears. When in doubt look at the ears.
