My dad and I always name the more common bucks we see in our areas to make it easier to keep track. It usually either deals with the bucks rack, body size or location where we first saw it.

Before I started hunting on the property I do now, there was a big buck that everyone called WhiteFace. I got an old 9 point 2 years ago with a white face, but it was not a huge buck, just a basic 7 with 2 stickers. There is a chance that it is the same deer, because with age he could have shrunk.

I had this dominant doe that was a pure pest for two years before I got tired of her and blasted her on a doe day. She ran off more bucks than I care to remember and I had a special name for her, @##%!$$!%!#$@.

The area I hunt really won' t show alot of deer over and over. Big, deep and the deer are nomads and keep moving over a wide range.

I do typically name one or tow per year though....just before I either release my arrow or squeeze the trigger, I smile and say...." you' re mine:!!!

We' ve only named a few and there must be some story around a deer for it to get a name. Writing its name on the meat packages would be too weird for me.
