Anybody else name their deer?

:DThis might seem like a silly question, but does anybody else name deer that they see all the time? There have been quite a few that I' ve named, some are still alive, some not. When I' m finally successful in filling my tag with one I' m familiar with, I write their name on the packages. That way I know who I' m having for dinner![:-]:D

RE: Anybody else name their deer?

Yes indeed!! Split-Hoof was the name several of us gave to a monstrous buck that nobody was ever able to kill. He was called that because of his drastically splayed tracks. Many people saw him, some even got shots at him, but noone was ever able to connect. My cousin saw the buck on a couple occasions, and said that the rack reminded him more of an elk than a deer! At one point he had a clear shot at him, only to find that the gun wouldn' t fire. He grabbed his son' s gun (his son had fallen asleep) and attempted to shoot again, but that gun would not fire either. He later found out that his gun suffered from a faulty firing pin, and with the other gun it was a dud cartridge:(!! A couple of others were lucky enough to get shots at the monster, but buck fever seemed to lead the bullets astray. In the end, we believe he died of old age after achieving local legend status.

I give each monstrous buck I hunt a nickname....I find it adds to the excitement:D!!

We had an old doe in our timber, we called her splayed Foot. Her right front hoof must have been damaged as her track shows the right toe angled out more than 45 degrees. She was quite big as her tracks always sank in much deeper than the other does. But this past year I never found any of her tracks, leading me to believe that she is no longer with us. But I' ve got a buck now that I call 4 toes. either he has a damaged hoof or he is just that heavy. Got a glimpse of his East end as he was going West, and he' s quite big.

We have a doe that weve watched for 6 years now with white socks on her rear feet, we call her sox. A nice 8 point we called stickers because of the sticker points of the back of his g-2s, hes hanging on the wall now. Dropper has eluded me for 3 seasons now and Ive never had an opportunity to take him[:@], he has a droptine off the right beam. Its fun to see the same deer often enough to recognize them.

At our feeder and food plot in the backyard we started out with two old does my wife named Maude and Agnes. They had a young buck she named Bam-Bam. Then there were more and more and more deer, so now there are only two we are sure of. One is a 3 year old doe that is bad crippled in her front leg, but she raised two good fawns each of the last two years and then a younger doe that has spots along her back.
