It works better if you separate it all the way around. You can get a better hold, and it seems to come off quicker. After you get the skin past the leg joints, crack them at the knee joint, sever the head & tail leaving the insides to do.I learned this trick back in the sixties from a guy I worked with. We went hunting earlyh one morning and each got our limit of 5 (in Ill.)While I was skinning one, he skinned all of his and did my other 4. I was stunned, and really watched him how he was doing it. I was already losing my hearing back then and I was amazed that he could hear a squirrel cutting a nut from 50 yards. That's why we had our limit in one hour.

I do as much squirrel hunting after deer season as I do deer hunting during deer season.that being said.I found a little variation of how to skin the little critters.
first I fill my outdoor sink with water and throw all the little critter into the water. with a wet squirrel,the hair doesn't stick as much.take them out of the water,cut off the head,tail,and all four feet.split the skin on the back about 1/2 way around,stick two fingers into both sides of ths skin and pull both ways.with the head ,feet and tail off the skin will pull completly off.wash and then gut.
don't forget to remove the little brown musk gland from under the front legs.
it only takes about 1 min. per squirrel to clean this way.

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

alot of u guys sed that u would take out the cat. i was seriously thinking of it, but i am only 15 and dont want a mad land owner or my dad chewing me out. all wekk, thats why its called hunting and not killing!

koBear back in Australia we have a saying about feral cats
that saying is "if it is 20 yrds from a house it is feral" and all feral cats should be taken
They do a lot more damage than most people think they do
In Australia they have now started feral cat erradication program
if only people would have their pets desexed
there would not be the problem we have today with both feral cats and dogs.
I for one will drop any cat or dog I find out in the woods

KoBear just do it in the name of conservation and keep it to yourself. Next thing you know get around a bunch of guys start laughing and telling stories and you find out it may be one of theirs or their friends and causes probems....
