Default .243 for Whitetail deer

I just purchased a Thompson Center Contender .243 and i was wondering what would be a good round for that. I will be hunting whitetail with it. I will be reloading my own shells. Any ideas will be helpful. I am new with the whole pistol thing. Thanks

I've killed around 200 with mine, at least half fell to the 100gr Remington CoreLokts...
For longer ranges, the Federal Premium 85gr HPBT Sierra GameKing is a great bullet as well...

We use the Remington 100 grain Core Lokts in the Daughters single-shot Rossi Youth Gun in the .243...then I use the more expensive 100 grain Hornady Custom shells in my Browning A-Bolt Hunter .243 Rifle.I've taken 2 nice 8-Point Bucks and several nice size Doe's with it and about 6 Coyotes so far in the past 5 years!

+1 on the 85 grain Sierra GameKing HPBT. Does a great job on whitetail and accurate.

X3 on the corelockts - for whatever reason, I purchase premium ammo for my .300WSM, but have always been happy with the inexpensive (relative term with today's ammo prices) Remington corelockts. 10 yards has been the farthest they've traveled after the shot.
