Deer hit by truck sends jogger into ditch.
PALISADE HEAD, Minn., March 17 (UPI) -- Sara Betzler says she had no idea when she landed in a ditch during a routine morning jog near her Minnesota home that it was a flying deer that put her there.
It was last week, well after Christmas, when a passing pickup truck struck a deer in the road and sent the animal flying into her. At least that's her conclusion.
The truck driver didn't stop to verify her story, or help the dazed jogger.
"All of a sudden I was just in the ditch, and I didn't know why," Betzler told the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune. "I looked to my right and the truck was driving off. When I looked over to my left, there was a dead deer lying there, and that's when I realized, oh my gosh, I was hit by a deer and not by a car."
Betzler said she had taken a 5 1/2 -mile run around her home in Palisade Head every Sunday for three years without incident until now. She went to a doctor, who treated her for whiplash and bruises and told her to stay off the road for a while.
"I'm thankful I wasn't killed," she told the newspaper. "And I'm thankful it wasn't a buck and stabbed me to death (with its antlers)."
