Bow or Gun?????? Which one is more fun.
I bow hunt and gun hunt. I pesronally think gun hunting is more fun but when you bow hunt you can actually watch the deer for an hour or so at a time. gun hunting its around five minutes if your lucky. What do you think?
|
To be honest, i think its really a preference thing. Everyone has there favorite thing, some might be gun some might be bow.
|
although bow is alot more werk than gun....i like bow, puts ya right in the mix, nothin like having a deer walk up to ya, put their nose on ya and take a big wiff, jump back and start stompin the ground at ya to get ya to flinch!! like a bull fixin to charge!!! full adrenaline rush!!!
took me 4 years to get in the mix like that though. |
like gun and bow hunting but I'm more of a gun hunter
|
I like both. Just cause ya have a gun in your hand doesn't mean that ya have to shoot 200 yards. I have only taken 3 deer that were futher than 50 yards.
|
I think bowhunting is more fun than gun. I'd say it's more challenging you have to do a lot more movement drawing your bow and you gotta get them in close. Once you shoot one with a bow you'll be hooked at least I am I didnt even take a gun hunting last season.

I used to do nothing but bow hunt, but a few years ago I took the .270 out and really enjoyed it. Since then I have gave up the bow and now gun hunt only. One reason is I dont have enough time or dedication to practice with the bow anymore. And i really like neck shooting them with my .270! Love to watch them fall where I shoot them. No tracking!
|
At my age
I could care less if anyone has favorites. I just want to be able to get out hunting, be it archery or firearms. And the more choices the better.
|
im kind of like valentine....i just love to get out and hunt. Id probably say gunhunting is more "fun" because you have more chances to take a deer tho
|
If I had to pick one, it would be bow... nothing like it... but I do like to whack them w/ my gun too!
|
I always loved gun hunting, something about being in the woods with a rifle/gun, etc...maybe because it's so foreign around here, the city/burbs.
but I'm pretty much only a bow hunter these days. I'd rather hunt the rut or near it than post rut with a gun, rut wit a gun would be amazing. I also kinda like a nice 100yd shot as opposed to a 20yd bow shot, but that's just me, but I make do, and it's all bow for me these days... |
For me, there is no doubt that I love bow hunting much more than gun hunting. I almost feel as if I'm cheating when I take a gun out hunting.
Part of it might be that I get to spend a lot more time bow hunting because our season here is 4 months long and I can buy as many antlerless bow tags as I would like. Not so with the gun. I love the challenge that the bow adds. |
I've always preferred gun hunting. It may be the combining of my love of guns, with the joy of hunting, and just being outdoors in the fall that makes it all work for me.
I just never got into bow hunting, and don't really have the time to do both effectively. |
At this point of my life gun........20yrs ago bow.
|
It's a lot cheaper to go shoot your bow every night, which I like. And there is more of an "inner game" shooting a bow. I like that, too.
|
I don't have the patience for bow hunting and mosquitos. Like the comradery associated with gun hunting better. And I fell out of a tree and wrecked my ankle years ago and hate tree stands (unless it's a huge box stand on stilts).
Archery is more of an individual thing IMHO. |
I have had more success with Bow, but prefer firearm by far.
|
Haven't hunted with a gun for bout 10 years now so, bow hunting is more fun for me. Only killed one deer with a gun and it was a quota hunt here in KY. As far as having more chances, maybe, but if you do your homework you will get plenty with a bow.

Sadly to say..gun
And why is that? Because in FLorida I only get about 5 weekends for archery..General gun is everyday for about a month and 1/2 .. If the time frame to hunt was the same..it would be bow hands down. Reasons being.. A. you cna shoot does B. Quieter C. more of a rush D. requires more skill E. woods are quieter F.Less hunters |
Youd have a better chance of killing deer with a gun but some people may enjoy the challenge of hunting with a bow over a gun
|
I use both widens my opertunity and makes the season longer JMO more challenging with a bow but both are equally as fun?
|
Deer hunting is my favorite and I don't care what I'm using. I've probably killed as many with a bow as I have a gun in my 38 years of deer hunting.

You're correct on that one!.....Gun hunters can learn alot by talking to Old bow hunters......I have never hunted with a bow, but all my questions have always been to bow hunters..
If I had to choose, I'd grab a bow every time. |
Hello everyone, glad to meet you here, hope to know more about you...........
|
I've deer hunted for close to 45 years. About 15 years ago a friend sold me a bow with accessories as he had bought new equipment. We practiced a couple of months and I got confident in hitting an 8" spot consistently. The second day I hunted with the bow I got a good shot on a doe, she took off with some extra adrenaline thru a cut over thicket. When I finally got her back to the truck I put my bow up and havn't shot it since. I know I can take my .270 and drop a deer in its tracks if I take my time. I hear of too many people "sticking" deer with arrows that are never recovered, seems like it is 30 to 50%. To those that love bow hunting I have no problem with it, but I won't be going again.

It really does depend on the hunter, however, more and more of my friends have been getting into bow hunting after gun hunting there whole lives. They are hooked and they love it. I'm sure its not for everyone, but everyone should give it a shot
|
I think it comes down to what you feel most comfortable with, I am from Nebraska and this year we are allowed to hunt with crossbows. I am thankful because I am very bad with a Bow, but good with a gun, now I just got my hunting season extended.
|
I think vertical bow hunting is more exciting...because of the skill required and the tension as the game gets close enough to shoot.
I also like gun hunting, first and foremost because it is just fun to be in the woods with a loaded hipower rifle. Both are great, as it is an excellent excuse to be out in the woods alone with your thoughts. |
