Deer cam rack size guestimation- Scoring vets please help
Hey I just got this deer on my cam in the last week. We were guessing and hoping it was a 130 class. This is a Central Alabama Blackbelt Whitetail photo taken on 12/28/10. Please tell me what you think it will score and most importantly his approximate age. I tried to post pictures, if it doesnt work I included a link. Thanks
Poll: Should I shank him, rank it 1-10. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I would say 120 inches or so and 3 and a half on the age
|
The thing that will hurt his score most is low spread... especially tip to tip. I am horrible at estimating score but I honestly doubt he will score 130 inches.
If I saw him I'd shoot him though ;] |
Hmm
I live in central Alabama Also. This deer will never make 130 class, id be suprised if he makes 120. I have a few on the wall that look as good or better that only go from 110- 120

Yes, low spread will hurt. But... "tip to tip" score doesn't count for anything anyway. I'd guess he's around 113-118. |
Dang guys, some of these scores are really high. From the pictures this deer looks like he would only score around 100 inches.
|
Bout 110", IMHO.
|
I would guess 110 max.
|
I'm no expert but IMHO I don't think he's 130
|
He is a nice looking deer. I would guess 110-115 and maybe a 3 1/2 old. You will know a 130's 8 pointer when you see one. However, score isn't everything and if he's a deer you wouldn't mind putting your tag on take him if you get the chance. Like I said he is a nice deer. Good luck!!!

95-105
I would guess 95-105, age 2-1/2 or 3-1/2, but most likely 2-1/2.
|
I just scored my buddys deer he harvested and it really resembles the rack on the one your showing, it scored 114 7/8 after deductions on the boone and crocket, so i would say around 115. age looks to be around 3 to 3 and 1/2.
|
"maybe" 120 but I doubt it. You would not believe how HUGE a 150 buck is....

I would guess 115 and 2 and a half in age
|
2 1/2. maybe 110 but thats pushing it. His spreads still not outside his ears. G-2's are coming along nicely, good brows, but he needs 3 more years to go before you harvest him.

most of you guessing 2 1/2 years old arent from Alabama. I'd bet $$$ hes a 3 1/2 year old deer. |
about 110 max
|
He looks to be about 105-110 to me.
|
I would say around 115 120
|
It takes a big 8 point to make 130". That 8 point might make 110 but more like 100. You can not shoot a big buck if you shoot the nice bucks.....let him go so he can grow.
|
I think 115 would be a stretch..green with no deductions
I don't think he is much over 2 1/2 |
There is no way that deer is a day under 3.5 years old. I say either 4.5 or 5.5. Look at that saggy brisket and stumpy front legs!! I am from Alabama too, and I am pretty certain that he has nearly reached his maximum antler potential unless he gets massive amounts of protein, calcium, and phosphorus this coming spring and summer.
|
Not a total expert on this either but I am guessing about a 110-115 and he is probably a 3 1/2 year old deer. I know that I would pull the trigger on him though. If you don't have a chance to get him this year I'm sure he will be a even nicer one next year.

I will say again, some of these scores are way tooooo high. Not a chance in hell he is 120, not a chance on Earth he is 115, and not a chance he is 110. The tops I will give him at this age is 105. If this deer scores 120-130 my 8 that scored 130 scores 160.

.....ts not that big of a deal, he isnt a 130 class buck ok? lol for Alabama hes as much of a trophy as a 130 class buck anywhere though. |
I don't think it is a big deal either. If you thought I was angry you are way off. If whoever read it like that, I am sorry. It is hard to know ones demeanor through text. I also understand that this is a great Alabama buck, but that was not what this thread was asking. Just putting in my input and I am not a professional scorer by any means.

Never did understand this stupid scoring system. Take a good look at this beautiful buck. The semitry and structure of his antlers is fantastic. I would shoot him in a NY second and he would grace my wall. :happy0001:
Not to mentioned the meat would be great, too. |
