Default got a 270 bar safari today need some help.

well i went and picked up my grandpas 270 bar safari since he got it about 6 years ago and i only put about 5 rounds through it when he first got it. and it has sat in the safe since then. so i was wondering if anyone could tell me what a good leupold/nikon scope with the bdc would be good for this rifle and what shells should i look at for it. i have always used the ballistic tips when i use to rifle hunt but i havent picked up a rifle since i started bow hunting about 5 years ago. so i can use all the help y'all can give me thanks in advance.

I chose a Bushnell 4200 Elite for my grandson's .270 after a lot of reading and have been pleased with that choice thus far. The good people on the opticstalk.com web site are a lot of help. Figure out your budget and check out the threads on that site. There are a LOT of people that are optics specialist that are very willing to help in any way they can. There is a long running thread on the site about the best scopes vs price that you should be able to find, it is very long.

Do you think you could get by without a BDC type reticle? If you could, look at the $399 Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40. I don't think you can get a significantly better scope without spending quite a bit more money.

well depends where you are hunting for the scope, kansas i say thats pretty long range. But i got a bushnell 3-9 x 40 not the most powerful but i can hit cans at 300 yards with my .270, does that say anything about it? i dont think most guys shoot over that anyway. But its a Bushnell Dusk & Dawn. I shoot 150 grain remington core-lokts. Might want 130 gr for less drop for long range shooting, hope u enjoy that .270!

I went way over kill with the scope.

VARI-X lll only comes in a 3.5x10. VX-7 has a 2.5x10 though. but its around $1050.00 with BDC.

you can't go wrong w/ 2.5x8 vxlll
