I shot a management buck this morning at out deer lease. While field dressing him i noticed black spots on his lungs, has anyone seen this before? He looked and smelled ok except for his weird rack.

Could be a few things, fungus, pnuemonia caused by bacteria or an abscess in the lungs. Hard to tell with out taking a peice of the tissue and culturing it. Also Tuberculosis comes to mind.

Nope not close to any urban area. Still waiting on a call from the district biologist! I did go back out and get a large chunck of lung though. Sorry, pics do not do it justice while in a zip lock!!

Aftet talking with the district wildlife biologist and the Indiana board of animal health I found out that it was probably pneumonia or a lung parasite either of which would not make the deer inedible!
