same case as your .270 loaded with a .284" (aka 7mm) bullet, can achieve close to 7mm mag performance w/o the belted case, a really nice round with an abundant bullet selection...don't own one but have shot several, another great caliber.... That brought back memories. And lots of laughs, wonder if Buckmaster has changed his mind yet it's been 5 years, maybe he's changed his mind.Anybody know what happened to stubblejumper? haven't seen stubble post in quiet some time (years i'd say, good guy, but a bunch have come and gone,) hopefully it will build back up:s13: |
308 Winchester with Federal 150 grain Powershok
270 Winchester with 130 grain Hornady SST's 50 caliber muzzleloader, 240 grain XTP on top of 100 grains of 777 |
First choice: .243 Win. with 100 gr. PSP Core Lokt.
Second choice: 7mm-08 with 140 gr PSP Core-Lokt. ( Note that this is the one that I'll be using this weekend...) |
Down here in SE NC, for our dog sized deer? .357 mag 158 grain HC lead backed by 19.7 grains of IMR4227 for 1935 ft/s

I'm another guy who reaches for the 280 :) I like shooting 140gr Nosler BT's out of mine.

I hate to answer for another man. But some people hunt in multiple states, or even different parts of the state in which they reside. Like where I now live in NC the largest buck Ive seen was less than a hundred pounds, but go up north in the mountains and they get much larger.

For myself, I have two rifles that I use for hunting, and each has it's purposes IMHO.
For desert hunting, my 300WSM gets the nod. Super flat shooter, plenty of punch out to significant distances (deer to 500, elk to 350, yotes to 900 though I won't shoot past 500), handloaded Nosler BT 168 grain and Combined Technology 168 grain BT. My 308WIN is my closer in choice, for personal reasons. I'm still working loads up for it, waiting for my Lapua brass to show up, before I start getting serious with it. For now, it's a 150 grain Remmy PSP I picked up cheap for plinking. |
