Default Deer Behavior Question

Last year I went out hunting right after a snow storm. There was about 10-inches of snow on the ground. I shot a small doe and had left a long blood trail from where I had drug the deer out of the woods. The next day I went back to the same tree stand and when I was leaving the woods I followed the same path that I drug the deer out of the woods. I looked down at the blood trail and noticed something very interesting. Another deer had followed that same exact path, but in the opposite direction from where I had been pulling the deer. It was like this deer was trying to find out where this wounded deer was located. Maybe I should get some deer blood in a bottle and lay it down around my stand?

My guess was either scent, or the deer just found it easier to walk in the path
