Of the four times I’ve been out, two have been on public land (a good-sized state park) and two on a farm 60 miles north. My buddy hunted for two days in September three hours west of here and didn’t see anything either. Anyone else experiencing this?

The mast on the ground is unbelievably plentiful, despite the severe drought we had this summer (so I’m no longer sure there’s a correlation between rain and mast). It’s like if the deer want to eat during the day, they can just poke their heads out from the thickets and nibble on acorns and don’t have to go anywhere…

I've seen absolutely no deer during the Alabama archery season so far.

Which state park do you hunt? Find a hot trail near thick cover and stay put ALL day. I don't go by buck sign or hunt fields. I just find a good used trail and stay put. Eventually they will use that trail. If it is in or near a funnel it is even better. They should start moving good soon with the rut and cooler temps. Just stay at it and stay in the woods longer if possible. I have been seeing most of my deer from 8 till noon.
