Second guessing myself!
Had quit an experience here in SC by Ft Jackson. I was in my stand at 330. About 15 before dark I bashed the horns together followed by some tending grunts. I heard something in the leaves headed my way.
I stood up and readied my rifle. Out pops a yote. I watched him then he caught my scent and took off running. Not even 30 seconds later I hear something running my way. It's getting pretty dark at this point. I see a dark image about 40 yds off my left shoulder. I stand up and look through my scope and see a monster rack. Just then a trots into some brush 5 yds behind my stand. I had saturated the area with a buck bomb. I sat there for 5 mins. now it's really dark ad the buck steps out. I can see the outline of the body and the white ears but the rack I can no longer see. I made a split second decision and didn't shoot. He caught wind off the yoes trail and does an about face and trots away.
I think the buck heard my horns and grunts but wouldnt come in. Then he heard the yote running in the leaves and thought it was deer running around and came running in.
In SC the law states you can legally shoot 1 hr before sunrise and 1 hr after sunset crazy i know.
I was thinking about it all day and can't shake it. I put in all my limited off time into hunting and scouting and cameras and stands. to have this happen. I feel like I had my chance and let it pass. Something just told me to not shoot and I didn't.
Now I've shot some nice deer high 150's, and this boy was all of that.

I think ya did the right thing man, listened to your instinct. Always be sure of your target.
I know how ya feel though. 2 years ago me and my wife were hunting and right at dark out comes this deer. Foggy as all get out and I couldn't tell if it was the big 130-140'' deer we had seen pass earlier but couldn't get a clear shot. Till this day I know it was him cause the body was HUGE. But I just couldn't be sure. I'm glad I held fire though, who knows there's that .000001% chance someones donkey got loose and my minds eye thought it was a deer and I shot Eore. Never know.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll get a better chance.

There were two times I wanted to take a shot when the light was fading, but I just wasn't sure where my front sight was sitting. Both times I regretted it...right after and up until even a few weeks later. After the season was over and my buck fever cooled off, I finally realized I made the right decisions. It took quite some time for me to be okay with them!
BTW, does the buck bomb make noise while it is going off? Like a flea fogger?

I think you did the right thing! If your not sure about the shot then dont take it, Thats atleast what i do. Cause itd be a shame to get a bad shot on that deer or miss him. I wouldve done the same thing. Better luck next time!

It does make a noise but with all the leaves falling and acorns hitting th ground I dont think it bothers them. Plus one can costs 9 bucks. Its like 6 bottles of code blue which wouid cost over 50 bucks. They work I've had a lot of success with them.
