texting
Do you guys text when your in the wood to help pass time. I started last weekend. It made time pass very fast. If you do and have blackberry messenger add me. 30C72C8D I have found most places will get text msg but no calls
i usually hunt with a buddy and we text each other all the time and it does help the time pass im thinkin about taking a book in with me friday just cause i havent been seeing any action lately and its getting harder and harder to sit and not see anything.
the cell phone comes along, but only for emergency purposes or if i need help dragging something out. getting into the woods is a way to get away from most of it... and thats why i try not to text.
I was thinking this will give different people with the same interest to talk to
Yes I text all the time from the stand to pass the time. It also helps if you see a shooter that gets by you and might be headed toward your hunting partner. You are right about being able to text when sometimes you cant make a call because of poor signal. Its makes you feel a little safer just in case you need some help.
If you can email from your phone you can send a test message to another phone without any further charges. I did not wish to pay for texting capabilites because I was getting to many unsoliceted messages that I had to pay for. So now, on my android, I just send an e-mail to someones phone text address and they can answer to my mail. Saves money on my bill. I never could understand getting paid twice for just one message. Once to send it and once on the other end to recieve it. I only want to pay for the ones I send. Can read a book on my phone I just download it before I go into the woods. These *********** are a great accessory if used to your benefit and not the company's benefit. Happy hunting.

This is my first yr hunting w/ my son and we text quite often, I like to know hes up safe and belted in and down after hunt. We also Just text to pass time I usually take my ipod to stands i can see well out of and just put one earpiece in barely audible It just makes time easier when things are slow If something comes in I just pull earpiece out and take care of business
I hunt because I enjoy the woods with peace. Clear your head. If I am bored, or just want to pass time, I get out of the stand. If a person is bored, they really got to ask themselves, why they are hunting.
When I first started hunting, I would stay in a stand from 1 hour before sunrise to sunset. It turned into a grind and work. I know it can be productive, but I won't do it anymore, even on a full moon. This is my vacation, I am there to have fun. I don't mind the ocassion text from a friend who is huntign with you. "seen any deer", or a deer is coming your way. But thats about it. And in fact, I would rather use a radio. I have no idea why kids like to text. Makes no sense to me. If I have something to say, I call em. |
We don't have cell phone service where I hunt.
I do text in the stand but it's mainly to and from those of us hunting together. Like bigcountry said, it's things like "seeing anything" or "any luck". NEVER work related stuff or chit chatting with people about dumb stuff.
I do agree, it does help pass the time! |
the cell has replaced the walkie talkies in many areas....
it's nice we can text...it vibrates, no beeps, can communicate in total silence... helps pass the time but it's nice to be able to communicate with a hunting partner without making noise. |
My hunting group, and I will only text if we got a deer, heard a shot close by, or got some deer runing to them etc.
I'm a senior in high school and I gotta say, when I'm in the middle of a conversation with someone and they pull out their phone, I don't even feel like talking to them. I hate texting, I'd much rather talk on the phone if I have to use a phone at all. The ONLY times I text are during the one or two trips a year i get to go hunting with my uncle, and only if a deer is coming.
My sister is a text-aholic and I really just hate hearing the little keys being typed now. On average she sends and receives 500 messages a day, it's driving me up the wall. I think I make my parents proud because my cell phone bill comes out to be maybe 100 bucks a year, tops. Gotta love those "by the minute" plans for those who never use the phone! |
I usually shoot my dad a text to let him know how my morning is going or if he has anything heading his way... Other than that I keep the texting to a minimum. Not much conversation texting at all
Man, I don't even get cell service where I hunt. LOL.
My long distance plan starts 20 minutes out of town in just about all directions. In fact I get charged to post on this forum, when using my Iphone . Not much though Maybe 6 or 7 bucks, because it's International. LOLOur cell phone plans really really suck balls in Brutish Columbia. I use the Sirius Stilleto 2 to occupy my time. |
I am out to enjoy the woods, I can see why some do it or have there reasons, but I dont do it. I try to be somewhat motionless, but damm it is hard. LOL
Nope, I'm hunting...
I text a hunting buddy that hunts a couple farms over to see how things are going in his area but thats it.
Only time I'll text is when the girlfriend wakes up...she ALWAYS asks, whatcha seein? haha. Or the other time I will is when I'm hunting with a friend. the good ol' "Seein anything?" "Nope, you?" "not a thing" "damn..." haha
oh yeah....even have card games downloaded on my phone...
I don't when I am by myself. I like enjoying the woods. The last time my brother was hunting with me we texted for a few minutes to see what each other was up to. 5 minutes later I get another text saying "man i just scared a 10 point away". Ends up that when he sent the last message he looked to his right and at 10 yards he was being eyeballed by a nice 10 still in velvet. Long story short the big buck tricked him into thinking he wasn't looking and when my brother made his move..... BYE BYE BUCK. When I asked if he was ticked for texting he said no, if it would have been radios then he never would have saw him at all. I bet he won't be texting next time though!

You think like I do. I think too many people suffer from ADD (or OCD) these days and can't even tear themselves away from their frickin' phone for a few hours. It's a compulsion and pretty sad IMO. I welcome the break from the phone and other stuff while hunting. I only carry my phone for emergency purposes while hunting and have it on silent (not even 'vibrate' mode).
Its the one thing I love about riding motorcycles. Nobody can call me, nobody can even reach me. My wife said one time, "what if there is an emergency". I asked her what in the world did people do before 1990. |
One of the many reasons I go hunting is to get away from phones, 'puters and the people who use them. Why in the world would I want to text someone while I am hunting. Here in CO if the scenery in the area you are in doesn't keep you from being "bored".....you're huntin in the wrong place.
We text all the time. It's exciting to hear what everyone else is seeing or killing. On opening day of rifle season I bet I got 75 text in the first 3 hours.
I knew it
Newbie hunters would find a way to work eight hours in a tree stand.
"I did not see that deer sneaking by the tree stand. I was too busy making a conference texting message back to the office." "What do you mean you're taking the day off to go in woods? When did you lose that texting cell phone?" "The new tree stands are coming out with a fixed, large print, texting machine, just for the busy hunter." |
One of the best reasons to go hunting is to enjoy the peace and quiet of the woods and get away from all the stuff from the day to day rat race and enjoy the quiet time. Cell phone stays in the camp, no cell service where we hunt anyway all the people we hunt with use radios in case of emergency.
