Why do TV shows make it look so easy?

You're watching the hunting shows and they always just see deer after deer and buck after buck. Why do you think this is?

onion721 10-15-2010 02:20 PM

Lack of hunting pressure.
Large tracts of land.
Intense deer management.
Many many hours/days in stand.
And of course $$$

I can sit in my best stand and see 4-6 bucks a day, but may only see a shooter 2-3 times a season.
This is where time in stand, pressure and management come into play.
I'm sure I would see more shooters if I spent every waking hour in stand.

They pay big bucks to see big bucks and they want to make it look easy so they can say "I couldn't have done it without my scent blocker suit, scent killer spray, these really expensive hunting boots, my oakley sunglasses, this matthews bow, a ford F-550, bad boy buggy, or my lone wolf stand." At least that's what I think. I still watch them just to see big deer down. Its just entertainment though.

TV Shows

are not about real hunting. Besides they have to use part of that long half hour of hunting to sell products.

They spend a lot of time and do lots of editing, so the footage is going to show the best of the hunts. So I do think they put their time in. But the money and outfitters give them the opportunities to go to places where they can get this footage. I don't doubt that having good soil to plant stuff and using corn flingers and other bait makes it easier to have a good herd. All in all, I can see past the BS and it's kinda why I prefer watching western hunts to eastern whitetails. Or I at least would rather watch a bowhunt to such gun hunts.

The hunters on tv are basicly set up in a tree stand in a highly managed area. Most have no hunting skill and are far from being pros! A pro hunter is some who can kill a deer on public land with the time his schedule allows. And also be happy with any deer he kills.

Most hunting shows are no different than people going to a dairy farm to hunt cows.

Lots of editing, lots of time in stands and of course getting to hunt some of the best places in the United States. I do not agree that most are not good hunter though just because they get to hunt the honey holes. Not all but many were good hunters hunting and killing big bucks on the same kind of places all of us hunt before they became celebrities, that is why some are where they are at now. But some couldn't kill a deer on their own in a garage with the door closed. I know a couple of the celebrity hunters personally and it is a hard profession to be in and a lot of long hours on the road away from your family. It's not all the milk and honey we all see on TV.

I haven't voted, but the true hunting warriors will tell yah straight.

They've put in many hours and earned their rewards, with often them coming up empty handed. Plus, it helps to have the world at your disposal saying "Come hunt here, there's a monster you have to see!" (for a small fee of course)

amen.. I cant stand hunting shows anymore

It seems easy because they take out all the footage of them just sitting there waiting, So you only see the action, Almost like they were there 5 minutes and a 170+ walked in front of them. But its what it is

skb2706 10-16-2010 11:49 AM

For the same reason that when you go to a kennel you see dog after dog. They already know in advance the deer will be there and its just matter of putting them on film.

Exactly..Who wants to to watch the hunter sit waiting. What audience viewer, would want to watch a show like that?Smart people, want your audience glued to the T.V.. Not have their viewers, turn the channel or leave the room. Reguardless of what people may,or may not, think of hunting shows, they're, as many viewers that watch just to criticsize, as there are that watch, because they like, and they think they are being informed. Either way the show gets the viewers and the audience the contracts endorsements and make money. In turn audience is happy cause they either felt informed or it made them happy that they could criticsize.

Don't watch tv haven't for years, but I do know how it works, first it's called editing. Someone is payed to decided what people want to see (like or dislike, doesn't matter) and what sells products. Apparently people complain but do nothing but talk about this show or that one which brings us to reason 2, They don't care if you like or dislike a show as long as you watch it and comment. When they sell advertising they take a count of everyone who's watched good or bad doesn't matter and with x number of viewers they sell advertising.

Simply turn it off and get on with life. Someday maybe when no one cares anymore things will change, won't be in my life time. They have so much authority now that if enough people didn't care I think they would end our way of life and enforce martial law. That's how stuck on themselves they are.

hunting shows

I watch them because I love seeing arrows going through deer. I cant get enough of it. However when they start talking and plugging gear I lose interest really fast. Oh "I couldnt have done it without my TC or my Mathews or my scent loc suit." I know what works for me and I will continue to use what works for me. Now if I see something new that I like I may give it a try. Basically I take alot of what they say with a tiny grain of salt..

Yep. Whoever said money doesn't by happiness, was one he'll of a poor poor person in everyway .I know I'd be a hell of alot happier with more of it. I'm not poor by any means but it would be nice to fly to Venice at a moments notice for a romantic dinner with the wife. A nice spaghetti dinner and fine wine at a classy restaurant, without the kids and be back by morn.LOL.

salukipv1 10-16-2010 06:35 PM

If most of us cut our season down to a 30min tv show...I think that's 24mins...I think our season would look awesome! deer around every turn/bend...etc...
