I just watched (Secrets of the hunt)program on the outdoor channel they were hunting mule deer with a M/L.They shot a mule deer that they called a Hybrid.
It had the face of a whitetail, ears of a mule deer, tail of a whitetail except for the coloring, which was that of a mule deer. The color of the body they say was also that of a whitetail. There were three mule deer together and they shot the biggest buck. When they ran away they had the familiar gait of a mule deer.
They said this happens when a mule deer breeds with a whitetail. It was in Kansas
where they were hunting. Is it possible some big whitetails being shot are hybrids.

Yep, I've seen a few mulie-hybrids here in Kansas, even though every deer i've shot has been 100% whitetail. It's pretty easy to tell the hybrids, most of the time.
