I've been there and done all that. Welcome to the club, and I'd like to thank you for sharing your experiences. Hunting deer is about patience, willing to learn, and persistence.
Specifically, stay away from the area where you were busted for at least a week. Take the time to focus on other areas where hunting might be successful. Use all the information you gather and process it for a successful hunt. Scent and movement are the biggest issues to tackle in deer hunting. As you know white tails have sophisticated olfactory senses and have a range of smell that is beyond our imagination. Be sure to wear scent free clothing (if you can afford it) or, at a minimum, descent yourself with one of the many excellent products available on the market. Scent from breath is a big issue that most hunters don't pay attention to, so make sure you haven't just eaten a slab of salami or smoked tobacco. I wash my mouth out with baking soda to neutralize mouth odor. Wear rubber boots that are scent free. Regarding movement, a deer's eye is specialized through evolution to pick up movement. It has an incredible ability to detect the slightest movement in a field of view that is far beyond 180 degrees. Once you do go back to the place where you have seen so many deer, be patient. I have the feeling good things are in store for you. Good luck and happy hunting. Wildbill51 |
Thanks WildBill51 for your comments and suggestions I will hunt a different area for a while and let things settle down in this Deer rich invironment. I thought I'd go back saturday and give it a try if the wind is right. 5 days away ought to help let things cool down.
