DO you see deer all the time

Do you guys see deer every time you hunt, or do you have spells where you see nothing. I did not see a thing today guess it just matters where they end up right?

DocD 09-15-2010 05:21 PM

No I do not see deer every time I hunt, where are you hunting? seems a little early, Doc

kyslayer 09-15-2010 05:31 PM

i have been out 3 times the past two weekends and havent seen a thing in my spot.... they will come, it deepends on pressure which they aretn getting much yet. And the waeather. Here in ky its still warm so they arent moving much. The spot you hunt can be dead right now and a hot spot when it cools off. Just hang in there. And by the way i live in kentucky and we have been in season since the fourth

kswild 09-15-2010 05:33 PM

I do see deer almost every time I go out, but then again I know where they are. Now if I go to the public hunting area 3 miles from my house the answer would be no.... the reason being is it's a little 30 acre spot on a state lake and the deer don't stay there. In 5 seasons I've seen the same buck there twice. Almost bow killed him the first time but I was on the ground hiding behind a stump. He walked up to within 30 yards and busted me when I went to draw. The underbrush was up to his chin. That' s it.
Live it up! Doug

NHbuckhunter 09-15-2010 05:37 PM

KCbuckeye22 09-15-2010 05:41 PM

Missouri I dont, my average on stand is .5 (thats not half of a deer, just one every two stands). I hunt public land in MO.

On my family farm in Ohio I see at least 2 per stand. I know the land well which helps.

kyslayer 09-15-2010 05:48 PM

im hunting a new lease this year.... 178 acres and its an all new farm to me... i picked a good area with a hillsidee full of cedars on one side and a nice stand of hardwoods on the other side of me. my stands on the edge of a creek bottom. I thought this would b very productive but like i said havent seen one yet. Hopefully it will change. The farm i used to hunt id usually see deer. so im missing that!

blackhawk_archery 09-15-2010 05:51 PM

I dont see deer every time I go I dont imagine anyone does,I would say the longest I go without seeing a deer is 6 days.

*twodogs* 09-15-2010 05:54 PM

Nope, not all the time, especially during the earlier part of the season. As the rut gets going, I see something most days and I am usually passing on the shot unless it's wide and old or no horns.

Night Crawler 09-15-2010 06:03 PM

I have had a 80% deer sighting for the last 7 years. but no there are times I do not see a deer.

skb2706 09-16-2010 05:41 AM

Actually if I was so inclined I could see deer every day. 365 days a year.

PY Antlers 09-16-2010 06:24 AM

I don't remember the last time I didn't see a deer on stand. But I have a really good area with a hidden 5 acre food plot surrounded by 100 acres of woods and swamp. Season starts Sat. and I can start thinning the doe's. I'll only take a heart shot because I don't want to go tracking into the timber and spook the bucks.

kateraxl2381 09-16-2010 06:37 AM

I don't know if anyone can see deer every single time they head to the woods, but some more than other I would assume

deernutz 09-16-2010 06:58 AM

Went out yesterday and saw 4 bucks. Nothing that was tempting but it was cool. I've been out 7 times and saw deer 4 times.

halfbakedi420 09-16-2010 07:08 AM

deer aint touched my plot in weeks, i am guessing its the acorns falling, but i aint sure.
i will move my cam this time if nothin is on it, over to the acorn tree, and see if im right.
when i first started to hunt this one property, i wondered fer a couple years if there were any deer,
after lots of hard werk clearing, and plotting, it finally paid off...
now every year i go, i see the deer, and can just let em kick it, with out ever taking a shot....where as the 1st deer i saw i smoked it in the 1st 5 seconds.
i always saw sign, deer crap and tracks, but it wasnt til i smoked that 1st one i really started seeing stuff...
what im gettin at is, keep werkin it, and it could pay off later.

doetrain 09-16-2010 08:10 AM

Even in my very best spot I would not see deer while on stand every time. My average is seeing deer every other weekend when we get close to November. I spook one or two nearly every time I go to my stand but this is a 1/4 mile from my stand site.

yukonmountainman 09-16-2010 08:25 AM

yeah i hunt western ny and really big woods, some times i go a week without seeing one the go a week where i see 10 a day. ya never know, weather rut it all depends

BOWHUNTERCOP 09-16-2010 09:32 AM

most of the time I see deer all the time when hunting

Sniggle 09-16-2010 09:59 AM

Behind my house, I typically see between 2 and 12 deer. That being said, some of those deer are in the field walking past my stand (I do not have access to the field), some enter the woods to the left of my stand, some enter the woods to the right of my stand. I have access to 3000 feet of woodline that borders a bean field (this year). My neighbor's boy was in one of the stands yesterday evening and had a batchelor group of 3 eight points, 2 6 points and a 4 point enter the woods and linger within boy range of the stand....only problem is that we are doe only for this week.

On public land I hunt, I typically see deer 2 out of evey 3 times I sit.

Jeff Ovington 09-16-2010 03:48 PM

I see deer every time I hunt them.

noidurism 09-16-2010 04:03 PM

no, i don't. it's just part of hunting. i do see deer most of the time though....but they aren't always in shooting range.

AR Bowhunter 09-16-2010 04:20 PM

I see deer about 80% of the time. I see bucks about half of that.

Edcyclopedia 09-16-2010 04:41 PM

About 35 percent of the time, not bad for NH:s5:

CamoCop 09-16-2010 07:42 PM

Yeah you could say I am.I live in their wintering grounds, and I have a second home in their early fall and summer grounds. My Dad was born in a small community that happens to be in the middle of a major deer migration route so I know that area very very well cause I hunted in this community since I was a kid.And I have cousins that live in another community that holds alot of deer during the winter.

Fieldmouse 09-16-2010 08:16 PM

YES! if it's not a a half dozen or so, I get pissed and wonder why not. I got real spoiled by seeing decent 8 pointers about 75% of the time and a few monsters every year. 2 years ago was the first year of seeing a monster in 3. I was a little put off last year.

FYI, this year I already saw a monster 12 point. Unfortunately he's in a difficult place to hunt him. He's located at NIST inside their fence.:mad1::mad1::mad1:

halcon 09-16-2010 09:53 PM

We can see deer every day in the fall of the year even when we aren't hunting them , We have a lot of fruit trees scattered out over the ranch and the deer feed on them even in the middle of the day .

I think that would be found in his name NH. :) could be wrong.

nodog 09-17-2010 03:21 AM

No. Taking deer where there are few has been a personal pleasure of mine. Does get too you when you don't see any.

Once before I hunted a very popular public ground where the deer are few. I stopped looking for deer and started watching all the other hunters who didn't know I was there. Pay big money for comedy like that. No deer that wasn't completely out of it's mind would've been there. It was the last day of ML season and I just wanted to end it in the woods.

Are you using bino's? You almost always will when you do. Deer are very good at slipping through undetected.

Jimmy S 09-17-2010 11:46 AM

I also hunt NH as some other NH hunters here have stated. I am lucky if I see deer 3-4 of the 7 days I hunt. Sometimes I can go an entire week and not see a deer, other times, I see deer almost every day. Plus I hunt all day, every day, dark 'til dark.

Constantly moving has increased my deer sightings. If I see no deer or reason to stay on stand after 3 sits, I will move. This has been my approach only for the last few years. I can be and was a stubborn hunter and overhunted my stand too much. I thought, the longer I stay in one treestand, the better my odds the following day. That definitely is not always the case.

WM Greening 09-17-2010 05:51 PM

Some days I'm surrounded by deer other day I can sit all day and not see one hair. That' s why it's called huntin.
