Thanks for the info guys. I don't mind the other animals eating the corn. I was just looking for something different the deer might like way better. I was going to try Acorn Rage at Gander Mountain, but if I recall, it's spendy... like a 40lb bag more than three 100lb bags of corn!

As for soybeans, I gotta be honest, I'm lucky as my dad farms and so we always have some soybeans in a bin or around the farm. So if your not able to get access to them from a local farmer, etc I would certainly check with a feed mill if you have one of those close. If neither of them are close I'm not sure what to tell you other than having them shipped to you and that obviously wouldn't be very cost productive. However I have noticed coons will not eat soybeans near as much as corn and if you get the deer used to the soybeans by mixing it with corn it works nicely. Hope that helps

Your exactly right iSnipe, all them gimmick feeds/attractants in my opinion are a waste of good money. However if you don't have access to any corn/apples/salt etc you might be forced to have to pay that price. If your on a budget pick up a coupld bags of water softner salt pellets and put them out! You'll be amazed what a $5 bag of those will do compared to little 10lb bag of some "super attractant" for $20 or higher! Just my opinion.

i put out sweet feed at the beginning of the year. the farmers around here sell corn cheap, but it is about a dollar and a quarter cheaper than corn at southern states. the deer love it. the only problem is if you dont have a feeder and it gets wet, you have to mix it up with a stick every couple of days or it molds. so it is best to only put out about 50 pounds at a time.

I use corn with some apples thrown in for scent. I usually get lots of apples for free and buy corn in bulk for the season.

we run about 200 acres of crop ground which the deer love. we leave some standing corn and beans for the winter. otherwise we have acorn rage or something along the lines of that

depends whats growin around you bud...
corn works fer us, well, cause they grow a bunch around us...
ask a farmer what the deer are eatin alot of, they are his crops, he will know, then put that out...
after farmer jon cuts his crops, your stuff will still be there.....
remember it takes the deer a couple weeks to change food sources. they wont change for a handful of what ever..need somethin thats abundant in your area, and then just hope they like yours more....

as far as apples and pears...well if they grow in your area, they will work, but when we went out one weekend, i used the "crush some apples and leave em" routine, (no apple tree's around here) 5 deer took a wiff of em, and kept on eatin the corn wantin nothin to do with the apples...so here they do no good.

Thank you guys. It's good to get some other ideas. I'm not a baiter of deer(for hunting.(illegal here), but I do like to get them to congregate so I can see what's around. I also like to scout/spy on them from afar and having an attraction to something to give me the odds so I don't have to wait as long, helps. I don't need to see a Booner or anything like that... just want to see some quick action.
