I don't use one for deer hunting, but when I went elk hunting, my uncle took his. He has a Yamaha Grizzly 4x4. That thing is a BEAST but it got my elk out of some of the toughest terrain with no trouble. If you get a hunting atv, MAKE SURE IT IS 4X4. That is essential. Another thing is don't use it on other peoples property unless you have permission. I have people who ride quads in my yard without permission, it makes me mad. One of these days that are going to try to use there trail and find a couple NICE BIG TREES laying over it.

P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

I have a Polaris "Sportsman 500". I use mine to put stands out before the season, I use it during the season to get to and from my stands and to bring out a deer if I was lucky enough.I've been happy with my Polaris. It's a 1997. Had minor problems which will happen to anything mechanical sooner or later.I have a new webpage which shows my Polaris on there. In the off season I use it around my acreage. It comes in handy pulling a trailer around and using it for chores.I would recommend a Polaris. They are not cheap but are well made.Ruger Redhawk

For many years I have used a 4X4 for hunting, getting to and from my stand(s), and bringing deer in when I score. I also use it year round, fencing, cutting wood and checking trails. It carries ladder stands on a trailer to and from the timber. A sprayer on the back rack sprays chemicals, etc. A piece of chain link fence makes a drag for food plots. In fact when a Honda 4Trax was stolen the insurance paid off as it was considered a farm utility vehicle. This don't happen often as they usually list them as sport vehicles. I currently have a '96 Yamaha Big Bear and if I can, will step up to a Grizzly when it's time to trade.

i have a honda foreman s and a kawasaki 300 4x4. i use them all the time . if i had to get rid of any of my toys they would not go. i haul wood , feed cattle , fill deer feeders, check leases (thiefs like to find areas with no traffic, poachers too) . you name i do it . plus its just plain fun! i recommend honda. i have had two hondas both were workhorses. very little down time. oh yeah i have found these boards to be full of anti ATV'ers dont pay any attention to them.

I guess im against atvs for hunting. i have had bad luck with people on atvs while hunting. Like people driving slueghs with them trying to scare up deer. id rather walk a mile instead.

super magnum, dang duck hunters went to shooting like crazy as soon as legal light , not a 1/2 mile away. sure messed up my hunt. am i against duck hunters ?NO! they sure make it easier to get those areas that would take you walking a long time. i get to stay in bed longer than walkers. i can also hunt those far away places that you cant for those short times when i have to be somewhere just after dark. if i walked i probably wouldnt be able to go. and yes i has paid off for me. i dont have to drag that heavy buck from way back in the woods. my deer is quartered and in the ice chest and you are still dragging. yes i'd rather ride five miles instead.

For those who are against 4 wheelers for hunting. If you have never used one for hunting you would probably change your mind once you did.I know there are some who abuse them like anything else.It irritates me too when people during the season play around and go for joy rides with them.If they are used strictly for going to and from your stands and bring out your harvest I see nothing wrong with using them.I have a bad hip from a motorcycle accident 30 years ago. It helps me get to places I would never be able to go to because of my handicap. Some say that game has been pushed away from them because of 4 wheelers. On the other hand hasn't game been pushed your way?Like it or not 4 wheelers have become part of hunting.I'm sure there here to stay.Just have to grin and bear it. Ruger Redhawk
