Extreme Huntress

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I won the contest and I wanted to thank you all so much for your votes!!! I have had a lot of fun getting to know people on all the forums I joined to get the word out there about the contest. I spoke to Tom Opre today and he said I will be introduced at the SHOT show in Las Vegas on January 19, and then my hunt in British Columbia will take place in September. They will let me know at that time when it will be aired on the Versus channel. Anyway, I am so so excited, I really never dreamed I would win when I entered my essay...and I can't believe I did! Thank you so so much you guys!!!!

Daveboone 01-05-2010 05:28 AM

Wow! What a lifetime dream hunt! Make sure you ask alot of questions from the contest and guide people: What are your hidden costs,(tips, travel, personal items, etc.) taxes on winnings, etc. so you dont get fouled up down the road.

rogerstv 01-05-2010 07:28 AM

More bikini pictures and less snipe please!!!!!!

rogerstv 01-05-2010 07:32 AM

Sorry Rebecca.......Congratulations! I was recently wondering about the contest results. Good luck.

In this world of ethical hunters that do no wrong, make sure you pay the tax man. A cheat in one area of life makes you more likely to cheat in other areas of life. Obama thanks you in advance.

mackesr 01-05-2010 08:24 AM

Best of luck to ya Rebecca!! Hope your hunts are wonderful life experiences for you and yours. Please do let us know how they go and send us some pretty pictures!!

Champlain Islander 01-05-2010 09:10 AM

This sounds like real good advice.

First of all, I do congratulate her. About staying in the loop, I'm not so sure about that. She came to this forum to get votes, not to meet other hunters and talk about hunting. I hope she will stay in the loop, but I have a gut feeling she got what she wanted and she will go on her way. I deeply apologize if I'm wrong Rebecca. Good luck on your hunt and be safe.

Champlain Islander 01-05-2010 01:42 PM

SS I don't see it that way at all. True she did join to garner votes but she has proven she is a sportsman and has contributed to the forums. I personally like to see women on the boards and enjoy their ideas on hunting and all the outdoor persuits. She made it clear at least to me, that she has the ability to go after the most difficult game. I hope she will share with all of us about that hunt.

superstrutter 01-05-2010 01:58 PM

I'm not saying she is not a sportsman. I know she loves what she does, just like we do. I just wonder if she will stay on this forum and talk hunting like we do. I have my doubts. I think she came here to get votes and win a hunting trip, not to meet new people and talk about hunting, but we shall see. I do hope I am wrong.

+3. Only 27 posts since she "signed" up. 4 thread started. 1 begging for votes. 1 updateing the contest, begging for more votes. And 1 thank you for your votes. You guys were played and used. Highly doubt you will hear from her until she goes on the hunt telling us how great it was or another contest starts.

I did not vote for what it is worth.

I voted for her also, but after looking at her pics on her facebook, wish I voted for someone else. Why does she NEED a free hunt? She has done it all and then some already...Africa, World Class Elk, Monster Mule Deer, Big Horn, etc etc. This hunt she won will be nothing "new" to her, wish someone who never experienced what she has would of won...after all it was named "The hunt of a lifetime".

I think she wanted to get her name out there, and maybe see if a career comes from it, but thats just my own opinion.

Champlain Islander 01-05-2010 02:58 PM

Post count doesn't mean anything. If she wants to come on the boards and talk then that is ok. If it isn't her cup of tea then that is ok too. Her first posts were to get the information out on the contest and to ask for votes. We all had a choice and some voted and some didn't. It wasn't like she was trying to deceive any of us. She was right up front IMO. I can accept that and certainly don't feel played.

Words of wisdom. And I agree, she doesn't owe us anything. I do feel violated though.:s2::s2::s2:

Can we all start threads asking for just 1$ from each member. Do we want this board to become a magnet for beggars. She was up front and did not lie. The tasteless self-promotion doesn't sit well with me and was the reason I did not vote.

I'm the same way in my thoughts. I've talked to several women in hunting and trapping who enjoy these passions as much or more so than most men. I enjoy hearing a different perspective as well as some of the challenges they face which are different than men's at times. For the most part these outdoorswomen are more reserved than men, so hearing their stories are unique to me and I especially enjoy their humor too!

I had lost a big buck contest on another site to a person that had "vote for me" threads in every other hunting forum that i saw. Even begged for votes on their facebook page. My buck was clearly bigger but unfortunately the website forum let anyone vote which just made it a popularity contest.

I had not asked for one vote, from anyone, not even my own family, because i knew i had the bigger buck, and i didn't want to play that way. I still had more than 3/4 of the vote count they did but was not satisfied with the outcome. I knew who had the bigger buck and this person and the website was called out by many others afterwards.

Not trying to get my story across here but i just don't like seeing people begging for votes anywhere. Doesn't sound like she needed it anyway. I'm sure she's a nice person and i'm not trying to put her down, but begging for votes is not the right way to do it IMO.

SteveBNy 01-06-2010 03:46 AM

I hate to see hunting turn into a TV game or reality show.
That's exactly what the "vote for me" contests are doing.

Now if only Boone and Crocket will allow the "vote for me" measurment in then all my 75 in basket racks will now be Booners. Big Buck Contests are just that, big bucks be it weight or Rack measurments. Voting is just plain stupid. If you buck weighs 215 and has a score of 165 and mine weighs 145 and scores 105, clearyly yours is bigger even if the nimrods on the net somehow say mine is bigger.

WaccamawHunter 01-06-2010 07:45 AM

Who cares. I say congrats on winning!!!!!

Several posts that violated HNI rules were deleted. Some of the posts were violations by the posting members and others merely copy/pasted the rules violation into their post.

If you have a problem with another member's post(s), report the post through the complaint icon (yellow triangle with an exclamation point) at the bottom left of each member's post or send a PM (Private Message) to a mod or admin. Please do not engage in a flame war that makes the situation worse and creates more work for admin/mods.

If you think a topic is inappropriate for HNI, use the same report icon or send admin or a mod a PM. It helps if you include an explanation of what is going on and list the name of who is violating what rule. thanks in advance for your cooperation.
