Wow, this has been a very interesting thread! And I want to comment on a few things. First, i really do appreciate all the kind comments I have received, and I really appreciate all those who voted for me. As far as the contest goes...I WAS absolutely asking for votes everywhere I could. You see...this contest was ultimately publicity for the sponsor's site. They way they did that was to get other people to bring attention to them. Now, when I entered the contest, the rules simply stated to write a 500 word essay about why you are a hardcore huntress. Then if you are chosen...you will be in the top ten and have to get votes in order to win. That seems pretty simple. Anybody can write a 500 word essay, and that essay is based on merit. But once I made it to the top ten, it did become a popularity contest, but not for me....for the sponsor. I did exactly what they wanted me to do....get as many votes as possible in order to bring more people to their site. Personally, I think it is an ingenious idea for promotion of a site. And honestly, how many of you wouldn't write an essay if you had the opportunity to win that kind of a hunt? I also stated that if you weren't interested in getting involved, it was no big deal. I only wanted people to vote if they wanted to.
Second, I did join several forums, but in doing so...I have made a lot of really good friends. I intend to visit all of the forums regularly because I enjoy shootin the breeze with my new friends about hunting. I can't visit them every single day simply because I have a family, job, school, etc... But I can promise you will continue to see me here. The last two months since I joined the forums...all I was concerned about was getting votes (which was the point of the contest). Now it is over....I can get back to normal.
Third, as far experience goes...I have had a lot of amazing hunting opportunities in my life. But 99% of them have been self-guided on public land, including my brown bear hunt in Alaska in which my husband guided me. The other hunts, such as to Africa, we had to save for, and sacrifice other things in order to experience that. But this hunt IS a dream come true because I have never been to British Columbia, and I have always wanted to. I'm not sure if I would have have gotten there otherwise.
I love to talk about hunting more than anything, but I don't like to argue or be attacked unjustly. So I very much plan to participate in this forum, but I don't intend to be a part of a negative conversation...life is too short.
Once again, thank you so much for those who have befriended me. I love meeting new huntin buddies. I have become great friends with Isnipe, and think the world of him. I hope to get to know the rest of you better too.
