Having been in the business, all I can say is, :bash: and lmao.
|
That's one person's opinion that I don't agree with at all. Rich loser, huh? I'm with SWT and would hunt with David down on his ranch any day!!! It would seem to me like if he was a loser he wouldn't have written about those two hunts!
|
Tim Wells is my pick...met him at the ATA...stud stud stud! And you wouldn't have known he was there! He even 3Dpeep'd for me without asking me to pay him...which is a joke in itself I must say!

Real hunters don't care what others are doing.
|
This thread has turned right away from the idea of what it was posted for. I now read replies and can't help but think that most of the replies are directed towards the favorites of who you may like to watch.
Are they real hunters, do they have knowledge in a woods that we all tend to hunt over a outfitted hunt or high fence. The thing that everyone tends to forget is that the shows we see on the channels we watch would not be anything but boring. The success level would not be there and the cost would be so far out of the world that 99% of the Outdoor TV personal would not afford to keep running and taping spending money in licenses just to try and put a show on the tube that you and I maybe able to relate too. We would all be watching "The Young and Sexless" with our wives because our entertainment would not be on that remote. I have hunted with a few of these guys and hang out with a lot of them at shows and most are down to earth guys. They don't blow the wind that they are any one bit better then you and I and treat this whole hunting film indrusty like a job and maybe a hobby. Do you not think that at some point before the start of cameras and sponsers that they did not hunt the same woods as most of us ? They started just the same but there is nothing like being setup in a treestand on management lands with a camera man and after an hour in the stand here comes "Guess who" You - walking by right at the time that things may have happened. This is the only way to eliminate these sort of things is to get away from the general public to put togther something that is show content. Hunting is competitive and when hunting private grounds with others that have the same permission as possibly one of these guys and a cameraman do you honestly think your going to just toss up your arms and walk away allowing them to film and do a show that you can watch in a year ? No - your going after the same game, you got every bit of permission and every bit of chance to take that very animal that they are also hunting. I've been on all sides of this debate and see what there is to trying to put together something for the general public to enjoy and I also get the comments that have been tossed out here in this thread that I have to ignor because I would not enjoy the things I do. Do I hunt all the places that are discribed here Nope I have only hunted one ranch in my life and the rest is all on places that you and your friends all hunt on. Thats why I have not got a TV show but love to hunt... |
Adrian pretty well nailed it. There are a few real jerks in the bunch but you find that in everything including this forum. I spent a major portion of the last 30-years hunting with many of the guys mentioned as they were coming up. Most are excellent hunters and far better than the average guy because they have to be. Most, givenm the time we have, could walk onto any of our properties, public and private and find some of the best stand sites. I know that because I have watched many of them do so.
True, they hunt the best places because they can. So would anyone on here with any sense. Because of that and the fact they run seven days a week during the season, they can kill five or six big deer every year. Time constraints don't allow them to do as much scouting as they would like. They depend on landowners and employees for much of that. But one they climb the tree,it is all on them. When I was on camera, I always did my own scouting on the properties I hunted b ut I scouted where the guides suggested and hung my own stands. Most today don't have that much time. They have 3-4 days and then they have to be somewhere else. The above of course, does not include the high-fence group. There are a few of them and I do not condone that. But a high fence around 12,000 acres is not a pen. Don't confuse the two. That said, outdoor programming today is terrible and has probably done more damage to deer hunting than any other factor. To make it worse, with the availability of today's video equipment, every Tom, Dick and Vladimir features themselves as a video producer. Therefore much of the stuff on the air today is absolutely horrible and it seems to me, few of the on camera people have a glimmer of how to speak English or act in public. Bottom line is this. No matter who it is, no matter where it is, no matter what it is. The goal of the program is to sell something and make money. It is designed to be entertainment. Since I do not find even mine to be entertaining anymore, I do not watch any of it except by accident. The minute I hear, "This is about hunting the way the common Joe hunts, not some "star" killing a huge buck.", I know that show is doomed. The way most of us hunt is as 100% boring as watching a bar of soap. So, who are the real hunters? Most of them. :sign0004: |
The more money you spend on a hunt, the more you are paying for someone else to do the "work" for you !

It is wise to consider what you are really wanting from the hunt. If it is a head on the wall, usually it is best to listen to the guide. If you know more than he does although you have never seen the place but wish to experience the whole thing even though you may not see a deer, then ask to do it your way. The amount of money you spend is often closely tied to the quality of the animals and the quality of the operation. That often results in the quality of the hunt, not how much work is done for you. |

yes, but Tim's biscuits can't compare to mine. :barmy: Just in case he reads this.

I can tell you this ,there is a show called Brush Country Monsters. Its filmed in Texas and like all show its normally 10 minutes of show and 20 minutes of commercials, but its all
Low Fence - Free Range, so in my book its more or less okay with me .All the ZOO hunting ones (high fence) crap ,they can keep.Just my .2 Pretty much every name that was mentioned is a ZOO hunter - sad ,but true.Yes Ted too,but I kinda cut for Ted for him backing the NRA as much as he does. |
A lot of it is free range. Tons of respect to Stan Potts, he is my favorite. The Lakosky's scout and hunt their own property. Rick White, Phillip Vanderpool, Eddie Salter, Alex Rutledge are all good. Adam Hays is good. My second favorite is probably Greg Miller he is awesome to watch. Pat Reeve also, Jay Gregory, and the Kisky's... Just to name a few. Raglin is a joker in my opinion.
|
Roger Raglin started making hunting videos when some of these pros were in diapers. He may be a d!ckhead now, but he's an original.
Respect? I respect my hunting partner who is also my brother. And maybe Raglin just a skosh. |
Stan Potts is a FREAKIN IDIOT !!! I could not take more than 5 minutes of him in a tree stand or blind , let alone his stupid tactics for "hunting"..just another ZOO hunter and then acts like he has done some great feat.Anybody can kill a B&C, private resort ,no hunting pressure, deer watched by some so called "guide" then they call Stan the man to kill the monster, yeah, he is a real hunter -

Suprised the Eastmens aren't getting more love. They hunt public land. Hike in miles with packs on their backs. Spend how many ever days living in their tents and kill absolute monsters on public land. Whether they own a TV show or not these guys hunt their butts off and I doubt 1% of the hunting population would even dare try to hang with them let alone actually do it.
I'm not gonna critisize any of these show hosts because to do so does sound like jealousy but I will point out some that IMO are outstanding at what they do. Jim Shockey, Greg Miller, The Lakowskys, and of course the Eastmans are a few that stand out. |
Primos Boys
In my opinion, none are better than the Primos boys. Will and his boys are top notch.

They are all humans just like all of us...however they have big egos too that help them confidently speak in front of a camera...some use their talents better than others and come across less offensive etc...I don't blame them for hunting farms...I'd love to go sit in some of those trees I see in Iowa etc...however...as a hunter there's nothing better for me than to hunt on "familiar" land...you feel your strategy against the deer in your bones and when you kill...well you know in your heart that you earned it...and add it to the list of memories you've had out there...whether I be a kill or a bolony sandwich with your dad.
Heres how we celebrate archery! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRYFk...e_gdata_player |
I personally cant stand the FAKE jumping up and down and the almost PASSING OUT that Pottsie goes through with each kill...
|
Lee Lakosky...Tiffany just looks pretty..
|
and the duck commanders..

i think this whole thread is crazy. and with out some outdoor shows most of us would go crazy sitting home with our famlies all off season.
|
Get out of the house and go shoot some coyotes !

Steven Rinella
Steven Rinella is one of the few that I care to watch. He seems to be a decent hunter. He has a show that comes on the Sportsmans Channel called "The Meateater" that's pretty good.

The guys from Blood Brothers Outdoors are for the most part real hunters. They have been featured on Lone Wolf Addictions, they don't go to guided hunts to shoot their videos. They have good scouting and hunting videos.
http://bloodbro.com/ The remaining guys on "BLOODBRO" Are jerks Andrae, and me have moved on and will never work with them again... We have a new site now www.huntingbeast.com And now have an online show much like what we did on the old site. Check out the newest show... If you think all shows are crap... I think it will change your mind. This episode features me hunting a public land 10 pointer in S.E. Wisconsin. It shows the scouting and exactly how I picked the tree, and how I new the buck was bedded there 4 the hunt. Here is a direct link to the online show: http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/videocast/ |
Well I got a chance to watch one the other day some guy called the "Pigman" gotta say his name was fitting.
Piece of junk doesn't even hunt, rides around in his pick up, takes a shot from 700 yds away. How he isn't fined for that show is beyond me. |
A lot of the dilly dallying you see when a buck comes onto camera is just that. In order to make a tv show they have to get a lot of video so the waiting you see is for that purpose. Trust me, if there was no camera, those guys would shoot that buck just as fast as we would!
|
The shows I don't like are the ones where they shoot at these great distances. Its not ethical for 99.9 percent of hunters and ends up in a lot of wounded game. Plus imo thats not what hunting is all about...

I hate to break it to you but Larry Weishuhn hunts on game farms. I was watching his show the other day on the versus channel and he was passing bucks that scored in the 160-170 because the guide said they were to small and then in the same day he goes and shoots a deer that scores over 200 inches. I don't give him any respect when he hunts in a game farm.
x2 "Mr. Whitetail" couldn't find a deer on public land if he had a GPS and it was wearing a tracking collar. |

Stan may have over the top reactions to kills but he IS one of the few celebrity hunters who can actually hunt on their own. he was killing 200" deer before he was even famous or affiliated with the T.V. hunting industry. |
