Deer don't have horns, they have antlers. And no, you cannot eat the antlers and the meat last a year, but the antlers last a life time. I go after antlers and have past some up some nice bucks that I wish I had shot and I've settled for a 3pt mulie a couple year ago just to fill my tag so I wouldn't have to eat tag soup. I just try to extend my season as long as possible. I've had quantity, now I hunt quality, but I will fill my tag and even shoot a doe the last day if need be.
Congrats on your 3pt. Enjoy.

Bobby

Congratulations! Enjoy the eating!!!!

Staring at a set of antlers has never come close to the enjoyment I get from eating a nicely grilled backstrap.

Sweet meat there & nice shot!!
Been a real hit and miss year for a lot of guys.
Good areas that usually produce deer are not producing.
Rut was on/off due to weather temps up and down,a lot of standing corn & flooded bottoms.
We had a good year in So. Illinois and have a freezer full of venison.
I'm happy and thankful.

Our seasons are done now. The last hurrah ended last weekend with the smokepole close. The freezer is chuck full though with a cow elk, 2 buck deer and a couple of tom turkey. I gave away a bull elk and a whitetail doe. it has been fun but now it is ice fishing season. Got the tree up and now to get out all my gear and hit the ice in a day or two. Just took this one out front and it will catch in a week or so but until then I'll hit the shallow weedy bays that are caught now.
