Hunting in the Snow
#21
Good gosh I love hunting in the snow. The worst the better sometimes. The first snow of the year though the deer don't move as much and seem to lay up a bit longer, but then they seem to get accustom to it and thats when the detective work gets easy. Bring it on. It must be tough hunting on corn flakes. (dried leaves)

I'll be on the Potomac waterfowl hunting saturday morning, and then heading out to deer hunt in Montgomery COunty Maryland.
Gonna hunt Rappahanock County, VA on Monday. Hope to see good sign in the snow.
ANd its VERY easy to track blood in the snow.

I'm in VA as well. Can't get out on Sat but will hit some areas Mon and Tues. The snow will still be pretty good.
If you are hunting public land on Sat, be careful! With all this snow, up here in Northern VA, my guess is every yahoo with a gun is going to be crawling around the public land on Saturday. It's bad enough that I won't even consider going out to the WMAs on a Saturday.
Be safe, wear LOTS of orange.

I would have to say not all snow is wonderful. I found that out the first Saturday of rifle season. This was a wet snow with temps around freezing. It stuck to all the trees and brush and made visibilty little and very difficult. It was also slightly foggy and with the breeze and snow falling my group packed it in. We were putting on drives and found it pointless cause we just couldn't see. Now if it was a cold fluffy snow it would be a lot better.

I was going to hunt in Howard County Maryland on Saturday but they're calling for 20mph sustained winds. I'm NOT going out in that. I'll just take off Monday. If it were just going to snow its butt off I'd be out there but with the wind...forget it. With the wind it's a lost cause IMO.
