String slap is the archery fairy's way of telling you that either your form sucks, or your draw length is too long. A friend of mine shot my recurve at a 4th of July picnic a couple of years ago, he slapped his arm so many times that he developed an embolism and had to have it drained at a local hospital.

Healing the grip too much. Common fix is to shoot a high wrist grip. That causes other problems, well for me.

Its all in how you hold the bow.

Try this experiment. Hold you bow arm out as if you are holding an imaginary bow. Chances are you knuckles are vertical (up and down)

Now turn your knuckles so they are horizontal (across).

Notice what happens to your elbow. It turns out.

Try adjusting your grip on the bow so your knuckles are almost horizontal. The only part of your hand that should touch the grip on your bow is the heel of your thumb. Your palm should not make contact with the bows grip.

Shoot with a open /loose grip also!

This was my problem starting out. Verticle knuckles!! Once I focused on having my knuckles at least at a 45 degree angle in relationship to the ground, the slap was gone. You can go horizontal if you want, butr make sure you are at least 45 degrees. And be consistent with that grip once you find what you like.
