Boon & Crocket scoring help please.
 

I run a friendly big buck contest with about 20 guys involved. Our scoring method is Boon & Crocket gross score (no deductions).

One buck I’m trying to score has the beginning of a drop tine at about three inches from the end of the main beam.

Do I measure the circumference (H-4) before this point? The drop point is 1 ¼” and is the 4th point of 5 on that side.

I'm thinking you do it before and after. I could be totally wrong though.

H5 would be halfway from the drop to the end of the main beam. Again, I could be totally wrong.

Don't all deer get 4 circumfrences per side no matter how many points?

And the circumferences are measured between the typical points. A drop tine would not be used as a reference point.

For H measurements up to H3, the measurement is taken at the narrowest point between the two typical tines. H4 would be taken at the narrowest point between the G3 and G4 tines. If it's an 8 pointer, H4 would be taken halfway between the G3 tine and the tip of the main beam.

Now, if it's an 8 pointer with a drop tine at exactly this point, I'm not sure what they would do.

Just read over the scoring, looks like the drop is considered an E point, not a G. The H4 circumference would be half-way between the G3 and the end of the main. I would do it after the drop where the circumference normalizes.

There is no H5 measurement and I was dumb to believe there was. I apologize.

You measure mid way between the G4 and tip of beam regardless of the drop

That would give you an H5 measurement. Do you mean the G3?

What if the drop is right there? Would you measure around it? Like, if it were a 12" drop, would you measure the 12 inches down, 12 inches up, plus the circumference of the top of the beam? You'd have a 26" difference in circumference just because the drop was a couple inches off.
