What kind of real hunter does this?
Ok I was out in the field the other day messen around and checken my trail cmaera when I look up and see my neighbor driven threw his field at that time I notice some deer on the fence row 120 yards away from me on his side.of the fence probably 20 yards away from the fence so he had all the right in the world to shoot them...he steps out of the truck and
I cant tell he is going to shoot so I duck down not to scare the deer and to be safer from a bullet. He pulls the trigger and I hear his truck door slam and he drives off.So I stand up thinking he missed but I see 6 does run infront of me when I thought their was 7 but I ignored it and went on with my businnes.3 days later I come back and see buzzards and I like to go see what they are cirlcing incase it happens to be a buck I can salvage the horns off of.I walk to the fence row and their is a doe still laying their with a spine shot on her!I knew it was the neighbors buck and at that point my blood boiled! It is his land but he doesnt graze that land except during the spring and he doesnt hay it if he wasnt gonna take the deer why in the he!! would he shoot it?His land yes it was but still no reason to leave a perfectly good deer lay!!! Sorry just wanted to vent cant stand this kind of stuff! So called pro hunters will leave a deer lay in south texas over night after a freaken double lung shot which I dont understand either! Sorry again got carried away leave your opinions! |
It's tough when a neighbor does that. On one hand you want to give him a good talkin' too and the other, you want to remain civil... as being his neighbor and all.
I would at the least tell him what you witnessed and that was his doe he killed and he should put a tag on it. Regardless if he thought he missed or not, it's his deer to tag. It's a pathetic shame for someone to take a shot and not even consider looking for it. Isn't there some sort of game law there that says you have to be X amount of feet from a running vehicle before you shoot? Glad you were not hurt. Ducking was a smart idea. iSnipe P.S. "As far as Texas, it does get cold down there. And I know some don't care about the meat, but what's on his head!" |
You might want to report him to the DNR. I'm pretty sure it's illegal, at the very least questionable, to shoot an animal from a vehicle. Even though he exited the vehicle to take the shot, it still might qualify. And I'm also pretty sure it's illegal to shoot a game animal like that when he had no intentions of recovering it.
I'd definitely report him. Neighbor or not. |
What kind of real hunter does this? .... an ******* !!!!!!!!!
|
Stupid, stupid people.
|
sad someone could be so stupid.
|
here in texas, it is unlawful to throw away or discard any part of a game animal that is edible, and you must try and salvage every morsal..the law reads that all 1/4s, tenderloins, bak strap, neck pleats, rib meat and proof of sex must be kept, and to intentionally leave any game animal dead after the shot is just unethical..
if i were you, sounds like he might need some "management" help...maybe the deer was sufferin, or something and he put her down, i dunno..there are alwaz 3 sides to every story..yours, his and the truth.. not sayin anyone is lying or anything, ya jus never know. in texas you can get permits to kill off deer, and leave em lie, so once again, ya never know.. it is unlawful to shoot from a vehicle in texas, or so many feet from a road (dont get me ta lying on how far) better to ask what he was doin, than to accuse him..better results that way. |
even if i tried to report him i was ducked in tall grass i have no proof how far away from the truck he was as far as him thinking he missed the grass in the field he was in isnt over my ankle in height he either dont care or is blind....i looked in the arkansas handbook b4 i posted i'd feel stupid if he could leave it lay legally but i never found nything saying he could or couldnt leave it lay all i know is he broke a true hunter law IMO...i also dont want to P him off i would like to know why he shot and left it though...maybe a injury to the deer that would be kinda understandable for shooting not leaving it but shooting it?

I don't see anything unusual in the story, but then I don't know your laws. Here in Missouri that is the only acceptable, legal way for a landowner to get rid of too many deer. If a land owner wants to shoot deer to save crops or maybe they're eating his cattles feed the only legal way is to shoot them and leave them. Taking them home for supper would be hunting and that is illegal with out a tag, so maybe he didn't have a tag, and was just exterminating unwanted deer from his farm. Farmers here can shoot them year round in that manner, and they're such a nuisance that they are called antlered rats by many.
I personally would rather see them processed and used as human food, but then the buzzards and coyotes and everything else would miss out. |

dude if he is leavin em lie, this is the most opportune time for you to get over there and get huntin permission..if he wants his buck, tell him ya give him a grand fer every thing over a spike buck, and then dont shoot any..thats good meat and more land to scout..and if your like me, your own land kinda aint as exciting to scout after awhile, cause you know everywhere on your land already lol, if ya know what i mean? |

That and a slight roll or hill in the pasture will prevent a deer from being see if it's laying flat, like the dead deer here. Still no excuse for at least not investigating to see if there was a hit. iSnipe |
I know in Wisconsin its a law to tag your deer as soon as possible, so there could be a legal issue there
|
A tool!!!!

Im not sure what the laws there are, but in KS a farmer can get a permit to shoot deer (if there are too many and are causing damage to the crops) basically year round. They have to leave them lie after being shot tho. No reason to jump to conclusions and condemn the guy as a bad hunter or horrible person. He could be just protecting his crop and livelihood as a farmer.

While you paint a possible picture, it is HIGHLY unlikely. If I were a farmer having problems with too many deer, I'd be smart enough to allow my family to come over and do some hunting. If no family, then I'd have NO PROBLEM finding people to come over and thin the herd and get some good venison in the process. But to shoot a deer and let it lay there to waste, regardless of the situation, is pathetic. And that's my opinion on that. ================== Also, this is an edit... an extension to my previous post here... jsuth, this is nothing personal towards you. It may look like it, but it is more of an upset for me in regards to the "Policies" that are there to allow such a thing to take place. In this day and age, with people supposed to be intelligent, I find it difficult to grasp a policy that allows wanton waste of deer, without first finding if there are interested parties in either hunting the deer themselves or at the very least, putting the venison to good use. iSnipe |
It was in Missouri a few years ago, when a farmer had gotten nuisance tags and my brother in law was granted the exclusive privilege to be the "designated shooter". He alone was allowed to shoot and it had to be does.
I went with him to "exterminate" the deer. It was night time. I held the spotlight and he shot right over the cab of the truck. Each kill had to be reported to the game warden (conservation officer) and the deer could be "donated ". It was also required that the game warden be informed as to whom the recipients of the deer were. Needy families were chosen. Rant all you want to but it was legal. |

It's a win-win! Farmer gets herd population under control and the venison gets used appropriately. iSnipe |
He's a deer shooter, not hunter.....
|
i aint seen him to get ahold of him he is on a trip i guess or sumthen when I see his truck in his yard i am asking for huntin permision
|
No worries Snipe. I just personally know a family that has a permit to shoot deer year round because of the damage they cause to their crops. I don't know what their situation is on people hunting their land though. I do agree that the guy in the OP should ask family or even ask around town to find people to hunt his land if he has a problem with deer.
|
I just hate seeing a deer go to waste, regardless of how it was killed.
|
I agree he simply could've thought he missed. He could have counted 6 to begin with, fired(squinting under anticipation of recoil), opened eyes, and seen 6 white butts bounding away, and thought "dang I missed". Pissed off, he slams door, and drives off.
May have never had a bang-flop before. Also, you'd think he would've just kept shootin at em 3, 4, whatever times if he had some angst towards them. I shot at a doe once, out of a small herd of 4, coming towards me out of a steep ravine. I saw them go into it, quartering towards me, so I was prepared for them to exit. When they did, I let loose on the second and biggest one with my .444 marlin. In the following seconds 4 does nearly knocked my ladder down running by. They were so close, my scope hindered me, and I couldn't get a second shot. It was comical. If you remember the old "Muppet show", where the sax player in the end looked down his sax, as if it was broken. That was me. Finally I couldn't take it anymore, KNOWING, I had to hit her. I climed out of my ladder after sitting there for an hour further. Went over there to see where my bullet actually went, and I found it. Right in the chest of a large doe. She dropped instantly back into the gulley. There was 5 deer that went in, I missed one. |
OP,
You said he was in Agriculture right? Well that tells it all, you saw him shoot a deer then run off and that irritated you badly. Well he was trying to control the white tail population. Because Hunters have been leary of land owners killing deer for "Management" but really for the meat or for the horns (like any farmer gives a **** about the dam horns, we don't see why u guys really like the rack at all) we have to leave it lay. Hunters forced that peice of legislation on us and now you guys don't like it eh? well to bad! its about time your stupidity bit u in the arse! The world does not revolve around hunting so quite thinking it does! And they wonder why I banned hunting from my land completely. gahhhh |
People with no heart.
