Default Golden Estrus Scent Scares Does

I was hunting Saturday in SC and had put out a key wick soaked with Special Golden Estrus scent. It was either sex day and I had 3 large does coming into me with the wind in my favor. They got to within 35 yards of me and I was waiting on a clear shot. They got 10
yards from my wick and smelled it. They blew out of there like their tails were on fire. Have any of you guys had this to happen to them before?

No Special Golden has usually been good for me. Never had any does take off like your describing. Is it 2009 estrus or is it older?

Did you touch the wick with your bare hands before you hung it? Its possible they smelled some of your scent on it.

It is fresh 2009 and I used rubber gloves when I hung it up in the bush about 6 ft. high.

That's normal...Does that are not in heat don't want to be around a doe that is...They don't want to be harassed by bucks...

It you are hunting for does, leave it in the bottle...

Using scents is a high risk venture that can pay big rewards but as you experienced, it could also backfire on you...

Yeah nchawkeye hit the nail right on the head. Ive had this happen to me a few times. They will smell the scent trail and turn around and go the other way when i have used doe urine.
