Default First Blackpowder Buck

My son wanted me to share this with my forum buddies.

Last weekend was Illinios' Youth season and my youngest Son (9 yo) was able to take his very first buck.

The conditions couldn't have been more perfect for deerhunting last weekend, light west winds and temps in the lower 30's with a light frost.... the stage was set. Before my Son would eventually get a shot at the buck he'd tag that morning, he would feel the pressure of NOT being able to get a shot off at the first 7 deer that passed by us that morning. The other deer all passed within 60 yards but the thick brush and some bad shot angles prevented him from taking any shots. It taught him alot about just how important and difficult waiting for the perfect shot can be. Finally, at 7:45 this young buck followed a Doe and fawn through an opening just over 40 yards away. I bleated to stop 'em and my son squeezed off the shot with his T/C Encore Pro Hunter 209x.50. The 250 gr Shockwave struck the buck through the heart and he collasped inside of 30 yards... before the smoke even cleared!

I honestly think I was as nervous and as shook up as he was! You'd have thought that it was a B&C class monster by the way both of us were shakin'! LOL ! It was surely as fun of a hunt as ANY I have EVER been on. I know I couldn't have been more proud of Mathew!

Great Job men. Reading your description of your boy's first hunt put a big smile on my face as I anticipate the day when I get to take one or both of my kids hunting. Keep it up!!
