Just wondered how many forum members are Maine hunters?I have hunted up here for 39 years so I view it as normal fall routine. The bag limit is poor(1) the odds are tough(10-23%) but the deer run big(200#+) and the 23% mature bucks ratio has to be one of the best in the country. At least they have started to allow more deer to be shot in certain urban area with a bow now and maybe someday we' ll get to shoot two deer with rifle, who knows? The other forum besides this that I' m most active on is a Maine state forum on JHP(only place I found a site devoted to just the state I hunt in) and I was surprised at the number of Maine hunters both instate and from other states.

Woods, I used to bow hunt but, I started playing golf and that takes as much practice as shooting a bow, so I stopped bow hunting. I still have the bow and am thinking strongly of dusting it off soon. I' ve been invited to hunt some private land in Aurora so as soon as I put the Pack to bed will probably go do some scouting with my son.

I am from PA and have been going to Maine for the last few years to hunt Deer in the Grand Lake Stream area near Princton. I am thinking about going to Jackman this year instead. Does anyone have any info on the Jackman area as far as being good or bad for deer hunting? Any good areas to rent a cabin etc.

The Jackman area is a good area for large deer although not as dense a population as located farther south in central Maine. Can' t help on local camps in that area but a copy of Maine Sportsman or Northwoods Hunting would list most available places.

My first deer was shot in the town of La Grange betweeen Old Town and Milo. I started hunting Maine in 1972 and have spent many hunting seasons hunting the swamps around that same area as well as the small towns (Burlington, Lowell etc) in and near Lincoln. You may not see as many deer in Maine as you will in other sections of the country but you have a much better chance in seeing that bruise that will take your breath away......Good Luck to all in 2003.......Jimmy

I know that area pretty well Jimmy, didn' t realize there were so many Maine deer hunters on this board.Yes the odds of running into a mature over 200# dressed buck are actually pretty good.
