Default deer mount odor

Can anyone tell me what will get rid of that odor that comes from the deer mount hanging in my dining room???? I told my husband he could hang it there and I really like it BUT I could do without the odor!!!
Last year was my first year I went deer hunting (archery) with my husband. I was not into hunting the first 14 (of 16)years of our marriage but the hunting bug bit me and now we are a hunting family because our girls love it too.

If it is a new mount the odor will go away once the mount is completely dry.

Sounds like a DP cape (done improperly). If it has a rotten smell your sol and you need to remove it imediatly unless you like bugs and then have it remounted. The cape will be junk and you will need to find a better taxidermist. A properly tanned or DP'd cape shouldn't have any odor (smell of tan oil at most). If it wasn't DP'd how was it done?? WCL

No mount should smell and should be completely dry before it is painted and leaves the shop anyways. WCL

If it smells like cigs/smoke, that's from the taxidermist smoking around it....and will eventually go away on its own.

Other than that I have never had any odor associated with my mounts...

I agree , if there is a smell to the deer mount it was not done properly .
I,d keep it out on an open porch or in the garage .
But first thing I,d do would be to call and complain to the taxidermist .
Hope you make out ok.
Mounts are not cheap ..

My deer smelled like salami when I got it, no joke. Ihung it in my office and it started to go away after about a week. The hide and hair will pick up the scent of the taxi's office but that will wear off quick.

No properly done mount should have any kind of an odor to it.
