No state that has had deer come down with CWD has gotten rid of it ........ever.They will slow its advance in WI but not erradicate it.Until they come up with a way of treating the deer and stopping it, it will slowly continue to spread across the country state at a time.It will keep jumping zones as they think they have it contained and new zones will keep being formed.Deer will reinfect as they migrate into old disease areas.Until a breakthru the forecast looks real gloomy and measures they take are bandaid, not cure methods.Baiting and game farming are helping speed the spread but eliminating these will not stop the spread only slow it some while they continue to look for a silver bullet.

Why don' t we ask the people in Minn, Iowa, and Ill if they agree with what we' re trying to do here? Ooops, I' m sorry, too late for Illinois. What is Ill doing about it? Perhaps we should ask every state surrounding them what they think of Ill' s efforts to control CWD.

Answer me this. How many deer did Maine, Texas, and Montana test last year?

woodseye , the reason that no state has gotten CWD out of there deer herds is because no other state has done a friggen thing! I live in Colorado, we have CWD spreading through the state at a pretty good clip now (my point of view of course) What has Colorado done, talk about it, study it, do some tests, talk about it, talk about it some more, do some more tests, etc. The biggest topic of CWD here in Colorado is should they bury or burn the infected carcasses. And even that has been going on for 2 years now.

Wisconsin is trying to control it from spreading and maybe even get it out of there herd, and I really think they are doing the right thing. I only wish that my state would pull there heads out of there a$$es and take Wisconsins approach

That puts the little woodlot I hunt 8 miles from the edge of the new E-Zone. Last year I figured we' d have it in 2003. Looks like we' ve got one good year left.

I do trust the DNR' s judgement. I hope they did their homework on this one. The baiting has got to go. I have hunted over a bait pile once in my life, I found out it wasn' t for me. I' ll never hunt a bait pile again! [:-]

Thanks for the info. Question, I did not find any information on ways they are trying to treat/cure this. Is it responding to any type of treatment? Somthing else I did not see is if anything was being done to protect a gene pool just in case states need to destroy the heards.

There is no treatment or cure for CWD and even if there was treating a wild deer population is next to impossible. It has already spread to IL from WI so i guess im confused as to what the WDNR hopes to accomplish.

Yeah, there is no treatment (yet anyway) so that is why they are trying to eliminate the deer.
