I found this in the middle of a cut corn field today.It is busted off at the base.Wouldnt that take alot of power to do??

may be a dumb question for me to ask, but since I don't know your experience level, is it a shed? Deer shed their antlers every year and grow new ones. they just fall off around this time of the year!

That's a broken antler. That happens once in a while. You are right it takes a lot of force but if it get's hit just right it can break.

Might have been broken off fighting another buck or by farm machinery.

That happens a lot. It really sucks though when you see an eight pointbroadside and shoot because you only have a few seconds to make the decision and then find this.

Id say that was taken off in a fight during the rut. I actually found one a few years back off a small 8 point where instead of freaking off at the base, it proke off about a half dollar size piece of skull along with the antler! It was very recent and there was no sign of a dead deer around. I wanted to see the big boy that smaller 8 got into a fight with all hunting season but never did.
