Hey guys,

Do you guys have any experience with hunting deer with the .25-06 caliber? I am looking into one and have heard very good reviews. I am looking into the Marlin XL7.

Thanks

Excellent, excellent caliber. especially for the mid west where shots could go a bit. I would use that caliber up to and including an elk. I have a 25-06 and it is the go to texas, new mexico etc. long range gun.

6mm is pretty damn good to and very much like a 25-06

Nothing wrong with a 25-06
Just a 30-06 necked down-.270 necked down further and presto you have the 25-06.The biggest draw back to the 25 is finding ammo in out of the way places and bullet selection is minimal.Other than that ,good coyote gun, flat shooter.

Whiskeytrain
I have shot at least 50 deer, antelope and elk with my 2506.I have used it down in the brush river bottoms, hayfields, sage flats and rough Missouri River breaks. The 2506 kills way better than the paper ballistics would indicated. My deer and antelope bullets are 100 grain Hornady Spire points. My Elk bullet was the 117 grain Hornady.Twice I grabbed the wrong bullet box and was forced to shoot cow elk with 100 grain Hornady spire points.Lung shots,200 yds.,bang,1 1/2 steps, dead cow elk.I have a 6 power Leupold scope on my rifle.I have recovered 1 bullet from under the hide of a large elk shoot at 331 paces. It was a 117 grain. It mushroom back to the cannaluer and stopped just under the hide on the off side. Most of the shots were lung/heart or neck shots.I have never needed to use any other bullets. My 2506 shots 5 shot 5/8 inch groups at 100 yds off sandbags.I've owned Rugers,Savage,Interarms rifles in 2506 they all shot great.
You will really enjoy your journey with the 2506.Bill

Hard to beat for whitetails andother similarly sizedgame. Have owned at least one for the past 30 years. Flat shooting, plenty of energy, goodbullet selectionand very little recoil.
