Default Deer browse

Went to the lot last week and cut down some trees and brush on one of my trails near my stand .
I went back today to check my camera and to go for a walk on the lot .
As i got close to where I cut the wood there wer many deer tracks everywhere .
I cut mostly spruce and cedar . The deer are eating up the cedar and twigs .
Looked around for some sheds but no luck .
I also seen deer beds everywhere around the cedars .
I new they ate cedar when theres nothing else to eat .
There are many cedar trees in the area but they seam to like the stuff I cut down better .
The snow at least 2 foot everywhere ,
I,m glad there still in the atrea and still eating ..

while it may not have been your intention, it is an excellent management strategy that in thinning/cutting to do it in the winter as it does provide browse for deer. Great way to keep them on your property when other food sources may be running low

I'm guessing that if you have white cedar that the standing trees are browsed to the point that the deer can't reach it any more. The stuff on the ground is the only stuff they can get to. Cedar is a prefered deer food. And preferred deer winter cover. The tempurature under astand of cedarswill be significantly warmer than the surrounding area, and the snow depth is usually less underneath.
