buckmaster has better glass than the prostaff. I saw a deal on the old style monarch's(team primos label)at swfa. They are a real step up from either of those two and only $200 with the bdc recticle. The old monarchs can compete with some of the better scopes(zeiss conquest, vxIII, Bushnell 4200)

http://www.swfa.com/c-2119-nikon-team-primos-riflescopes.aspx, oh crap they went up $20. Still a very good deal at $220.

HD is right its the glass. The buckmasters is supposed to have 92% light transmission and the prostaff with 90% light transmission. I have both and either one is a good scope. I have one vari x 2 Leupold scope and to be honest I cant tell much difference between them.
