I hunt many different ways. each has it's own benefit. Tree stands are nice for seeing and hearing better. Ground blinds are nice for bad weather days. I think you need to look at your situation and choose the best stand for each situation.
Well put Magic...
This is the reason why I want one, along with for Turkey hunting (bow) and bringing my toddler to experience the outdoors (concealment).
Maybe even a little rattling!!!

I hunt from a treestand most, but I do like hunting from the ground in some situations. But I like using things around me to make my blinds.

I hunt both. All depends on terrain, weather and weapon of choice. In fact, looking backI can't really notice a difference in my success rates.

I started out just hunting from the ground, sitting my big rear end down against a tree. Then on to ladder stands. This year I hunted my brother in laws farm along a river and sat in his old shed that holds their fire wood. Shed is aprox. 10x10 with a roof and the front facing the river bottoms was open. I'm going to build a ground blind out of wood thats a little more weather tight with sliding windows this summer for his property. I gotta admit I'm getting older and the three Illinois gun seasons I hunted this year I about froze my a double s off.

Since I started deer hunting way back in 1962, I have hunted on the ground as well as in some sort of a tree stand. My first buck (1963) and the nice buck I posted here earlier this season were both taken from a "brush blind". In fact it was not until about 1975 that I started hunting off the ground. I prefer hunting from a tree stand and do so probably 75% of the time ... wearing a harness I will add. One big disadvantage to "stump sitting" is there is a real premium on the wind direction. Not that wind direction can be ignored, even 30' off the ground o0r in a 16' elevated shooting house. Wind currents always matter.
I was sort of skeptical of these so called "portable" ground blinds, but after having used one for the past 4 seasons, these are a really good option. Not that I'd want to hike in 5 miles toting one !!
