RE: butt out
ORIGINAL: magicman54494 Ok butt out guys explain this tool to me. You stick it in then pull out the intestine then what? cut it in half? rip it away from the ass? Do you cut the gut free from the inside first , then pull the ass out? I just don't get it. I have never considered this part of gutting to be tough. It takes a min. or 2 to cut around and your done. I carry a tiny folding pocket knife to gut with. I just don't see the need to drag extra gear it the woods. God knows I keep adding more gear each year. I keep trying to find ways to eliminate unnecessary gear. For the guy that said it's good for people without experience: How is the guy going to get experience unless he trys and learns. I believe early success with anything is important. If there is a tool that can prevent problems the first or second time you gut a deer you can always learn more later on. I do get your point about extra gear. Simply put this tool separates the anus from the body so it is easier to pull through. That is how I use it at least. I don't (didn't)have anyone in my family that hunts. I had to self teach myself with everything. I watched a few videos on field dressing but the first time I got a deer I was all alone and it was dark. To say I was "frustrated" during my first field dress was an understatement. In a way, the field dress rained on my parade of my first harvest. Is this a must have? No. Is it a helpful tool. I think so. |
RE: butt out
I think I will pass on the butt out. I also don't field dress or gut my deer. I cut just enough to get to the inner tenderloins. The guts never hit the ground. Looks like the butt out is just another money making scheme. I just don't see the advantage of using one.

RE: butt out
ORIGINAL: Ed McDonald I have used it on several deer . I made a video of the 1st time we used it . <"http://img.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v313/fasteddie63004/ButtOutTool.flv"> |
RE: butt out
Hey guys,
We used the butt out on three deer this fall and had great success. A knife works, but the butt out accomplished the task in about ten seconds. If you split the pelvis, then the tool is really not needed. We don't split and find the tool helpful. Just my two cents. |
RE: butt out
I have arthritis in my fingers . To cut around the anus and try to tie it off is no longer an easy chore for me the butt out tool makes it a simple chore once more .
I never split the pelvic bone . I have seen some at the butcher shop where guys have dragged their deer through whatever and gotten leaves and crap in there . But ........ if it works for you , do it . |
RE: butt out
I'm with less is more. I hate having a ton of stuff with me. I know where I am so a gun, watch, compass , rope , knife and camera are about all I take with me on my stalks.I have more problems getting up into the chest cavity to sever the windpipe personally. I'm short but I don't like hacking through thier necks. ICK. I feel like I'm crawling halfway in there.
My buck knife is good enough for me. Cleaning is part of hunting so I do it. I don't think it would be any less unpleasant for me to have a new gaget to mess with. Just my opinion. On a funny note I killed my 1st doe this year( just a preference). As I was cleaning her I found myself asking "what doI do with these things?"(her girl parts) Finnaly figured how to get the stupid thing off. My uncles got a good chuckle out of it. They know I hate cleaning deer. April |
RE: butt out
It is well worth it. Used it this year on 3 deer and will never hunt without one again. I never have enjoyed sticking my finger in a deer's behind and find that this tool does it very easy. The zip tie (Or string as I use) is so when you cut the part you pull out, none of the deer's bodily waste coming back into the deer when you pull it through.

RE: butt out
Looks like the butt out is just another money making scheme. wish I would have thought of it.....it likely costs 10-20 cents to mold, depending on how many cavaties the mold is. |
