Someone else hunting in my stand...

I agree with the climber or the removing the steps that should slow him down, but if he really wants to hunt it may take a direct confrontation to make him stop.

Let me break this down to you. It is real simple. The guy either has permission or he does not. If he does not, here is what you must do. Warn the guy not to trespass again. Document the date and time. If you have already warned him, skip to step two. Step two, tell the game warden. If the game warden cannot help, skip to step three. Find out where the guy works and send a letter to his employer stating what he is doing. Step four, call the police so that if something happens as a result of you turning him in, there will be some documentation.
Ask your dad if he gave him permission then proceed.

It's simple to me. No treestand, no unwanted hunter. Take the stand down and he will most likely stop hunting there and force to hunt elsewhere. It stinks to have to do that but it may be the best non confrontational solution. Use a climber as others mention so you can enjoy hunting there. It is not your land to confront him and unfortunate that your father doesn't support your position.

Guys, poachers will hunt your land without stands, removing the stand won't help...
You've got to find out if your Dad gave him permisson and proceed from there...
You mentioned that he drove a truck into your field...If it's determined that he doesn't have permission, tell him so and post the land heavily and put up a gate/fence whatever you need to let him know you are serious...
If it continues, then get the sheriff involved...Trespassing is hard to enforce and hard to prove, unfortunately these guys know it...

If you just want to start with keeping him out of your stand then I suggest locking something to the seat so he will either not be able to physically occupy the stand or it will be too uncomfortable. Something like an old bicycle frame would prettyuncomfortable to sit on.
Or maybe just the old classromm trick - a thumbtack.

Talk to your dad. If your dad wants to let him hunt, then that's the way it is. If your dad is letting him hunt, out of fear, then he needs to grow a pair as mentioned before. I'd start with having my dad read this thread.

Post a picture of the treestand.
And we can come up with an idea.

My Idea is one I have to employ in my area I use strap on steps for the first six steps and then use my screw ins
when you leave you take the strap on steps with you. or you could put the strap on's at the top but this could make it harder for you.I once had to fabricate a hinged door around my tree stand about 15ft. up that went around the tree like a roof ( stuck out around the tree 12 inches) and on one side it had hinges and a padlock so when I unlocked it it would fold down allowing me to climb past it. and I would lock it on my way down.
