the difference between the viper and goliath is the size and weight capacity. the viper is rated to around 300 pounds and the goliath is rated for weights up to 350 pounds AND has a wider seat and platform for extra room.

Sounds like the goliath is the one I should look at myself as I weigh 330 in socks.

I have owned several climbing stands over the years, none of which I have been completely satisfied with, although a couple of them came close. I have three criteria for a climbing stand. First it must fold flat for backpacking. This isvery important when walking through cornfields or heavy cover in the dark. This feature also makes the stand easier to carry. Secondly, it must be able to be assembled in the dark with a minnimum of trouble. In other words, no loose parts or anything like that to fumble around with in the dark and cold. And thirdly, it must be comfortable. The stand that came closest to meeting all of these criteria was the Lone Wolf sit and climb. If you weigh over about 230 though, it is not very comfortable. I now have a summit bullet backpacker but those are no longer being manufactured so your only hope of obtaining one of these is to find one used. Of course, all of this is just my opinion. Hope this helps!

Blessings.....Pastorjim

I have a viper also. I was at the hunting show last year and I saw this other climber that an independant had built. I forget the name of it but I was very impressed with it. I hope they are back this winter when I go back.

over 47 years but not all in trees but a lot of time with homemade ones and rest.

as you get older you want more comfort.

so, any stand i would buy would be BIGGEST platform i could get..

i swear by a LADDER STAND NOW,but thats not topic.

you cant give me a climbing stand,no way.

but, i dont move at all after i set up ,so ladder stand is fine with me.

Our ladder stand is huge, so we can't get into areas where the deer are, which is usually in thick areas of the forest. We only use it for 2 days out of the year, so its not worth it.
