Default Broke a few of my rules

Broke some of my own rules on this hunt. Went out without scenting down, had a couple smokes in my stand, and whizzed down the tree beside me. Had a strong wind in my face, blowing to the sout, and the farmer was plowing a field, so I figured nothing would come from behind. Around 4:30, I did some grunts and before I knew it I heard leaves right below me. Had this buck come in from downwind. He walked right under my stand, stopped and sniffed my pee tree and gave me just enough time to get a shot off. Straight down and 2 yards from my stand. Why I couldn't have that happen when I had a bow in hand I'll never know. So far though this is my personal best.

My father-in-law laughs at scent control and stories like these are why

My uncle smokes cigs all the time and he always shoots deer. I chew while I hunt and that hasn't caused a problem. Never wore any scent controlled clothing before this year or sprayed any scent blocker on my boots and never had a problem seeing deer. I think it is more important when you are bowhunting, not so much with a rifle.

I have saw people that kill deer every year that do these no-no's but I dont smoke so I dont have that prob.evrybody has to pee but I always hold it.I agree with what someone else said, about it being most important during bow hunting but during the rutting season deer are using the wrong head to think with and anything is possible.Nice deer and good hunting.

I used to do this too. But I have done the same and had deer around right after. So I don't believe it smells like danger to them like you would think. That or Mottz has been eating alot of deer food.
