RE: Average score

I would say the average here is about 60. People here shoot anything that comes by. It sucks.

A lot higher then you think.

A 5" spike would get the following

SP 6
MBs 10
Cir of 12 inches

for a gross of 28 inches

Little known scoring tid bit.
ALL DEER GET 4 CIRCUMFRENCE MEASUREMENTS PER SIDE(even spikes).

Gotta admit that I did not know that untill an official scorer informed me of that.

I think a better question is(no offense), what does the average 3.5 yo buck taken, score in your area? Around here I'd say 100''.

Right now I'd kill to shoot a 100" er (pun intended) Havent seen crap so far this gun season.:(

around our neck of the woods, 3.5 old will be in the low teens to 120, average.

I would venture to guess that the average buck taken state wide in any given year, is 80-85, max.

Interesting! Where would the 4 circ. measurements be taken on a spike? The first is somewhat a given, but the others?

Avg. buck for my area is probably 60 inches.

Avg. 3.5 year old would probably be 100 inches.

Average IMHO would be somewhere around 50 to 70. A friend of mine does taxidermy and a couple of years ago we measured a bunch of the mounting racks and they were averaging less than 100, so all of the others that were not mounted would drag the average down.......

RE: Average score

ya hard to say with button bucks, yearlings etc...

better question might be what's your avg 2.5yo, 3.5yo, etc...score...

here where we hunt in IL, a big 2.5yo will go 150" is what i've personally experienced, dad shot a 155" and 151" 2.5yo here, gross score....141 and 146" net..

a 3.5yo can go 180"+, again father shot a 3.5yo 184" gross.

Course these are big for their age, but a 130" 2.5yo is not hard to come by in my own experience. Drive's me crazy have a relative who consistently shoots 2.5yo...130" bucks, which isn't a problem, but the whole idea behind our hunting has been managing for larger deer, and he seems to not be willing to follow the plan. going to have to find my own set up next year I'm thinking.

RE: Average score

since the 3pts on one side got put into place (pa) i would guess the states avg. is still well under 60 i know i dont see many bucks that score over 100'' in a year. i shot my biggest buck this year in archery (104'') but the big buck sightings are finally starting to increase dramatically for sure
