i need advice
im hunting a 300 acre farm that has heavy pressure during shotgun season(indiana). ive seen alot of year and a half old bucks, but I've been setting up on what I believe to be the most dominant. Im using a prexisting stand that is in an area either where he's bedding or checking hard core. I keep catching him at the wrong time. i went in at 5:15 this morning and jumped him. How might be the best way to bust him without moving stand locations.Know that im not sure where he's feeding

RE: i need advice
is there any other way to get to your stand? maybe coming from a different direction will help you not spook him. atleast you don't have my situation, when I pull into the farm...I have to drive past the clover field that they all eat in during the early morning before sun up, I always spook em

RE: i need advice
like the other dude said, try to change the way you come in..... and when you walk in instead of hurrying to the stand. take your time walk about 10 to 15 yards and stop for about a minute, keeps ya nice and cool and you wont jump as much deer!!

RE: i need advice
Spend the night in the tree?

RE: i need advice
Use a flashlight as little as possible, if at all and also maybe try getting there an hour or to earlier. I have heard of people getting to their stand 3 hours before sunrise.

RE: i need advice
like everyone else said find a different direction to come in and try to be as quiet as possible

RE: i need advice
if you want him bad, camp out with about nine pair of clothes on. Youll stay warm, wont sleep much, but if you are sure he is there...

RE: i need advice
Ground Blind tucked by a field or bout 100 yards from there bedding area. Thats how i got my buck last year in
Hancokc county. |
RE: i need advice
You might try a ground blind or maybe a tent blind in the same area but a different wind ...

RE: i need advice
yea scratch my advice i misdead it, my bad. But what we did last year was we intentionally jumped mine a week before shotgun season and with a garden rake and made a path and cut twings so u dont touch anything goin in so theres no scent and also now in indiana since it gets lighter eralier leave at like 4:45 maybe a lil later

RE: i need advice
It sound to me like you are setup INhis "daytimecore area", whefre he spends most of the day -so you are going to spook it most of the time.
It also sounds like the buck is getting in there very early in the morning, after being out at night. What you need to do is figure out what trail he usescoming out of the area - and get far enough away form where he bds so you dont spook him, and then setup there in he evening and hope he comes out in the evening. Or - you can setup on the trail he uses to go back into the core area in the morning, set up far enough away not to spook him get there before he does, adn hope it happens during legal shooting hours. There is also the posibility that the buck is nocturnal, only moving at night, or that it does not take part in the rut at all, and does not have to leave his core area during daylight hours. If you can keep me updated on when and where you see the buck, or signs of it, on a weekly or daily basis, I will give the information to deer researcher and hunting guide T.R. Michels; he helps guyshunt deer over the internet. He's helped me the last three years. Or you can just e-mail him at [email protected]. |
