RE: Buck Fever...is there a cure?!?
I like to breathe slowly to calm myself down along with closing my eyes and relaxing for a short second, nothing is full proof but it has worked for me to step away, by breathing and closing my eyes. When i open them im focused and relaxed and its time to make my shot.

Breathe. Breathe deeply. Lower the gun briefly if necessary.
Don't shoot if you're wobbling around. You might get it but you might just wound it and that's not ethical. The self-control required to pass on a bad shot is very related to the self-control you need to not get buck fever and wobble around.
Practice. This comes from shooting out of season so that you don't have to think about what to do. It also comes (in my experience) from having had more opportunities to shoot deer. It gets better with time, but not time alone. So practice, breathe, and be willing to pass on the shot.

Just like stated above. If you sight in and you're shaking to bad to make an accurate shot, just lower the weapon and calm yourself. As long as you are making a lot of noise, the buck won't go anywhere.

Before the shot, I don't get buck fever at all. I just see an animal that is about to be dead hopefully. I don't know why or how, but I kind of pull myself away from it emotionally, and look at it as a job. I see an animal that I need, that I have been waiting for, and its now time to get the job done. I sight them up, put the scope where it needs to be, and when they quit moving, i send a little lead poisoning their way. There is no emotion involved from the point where I first see the deer, to the point when i walk up on him and find him dead.
Once I see him dead, its a whole different game. That's when the fever hits me. Sometimes i start laughing for no apparent reason, sometimes, i get a big sh!t eating grin that wont leave my face for the next 5 minutes, but it never happens until i find him dead on the ground and I know its a done deal.

the trick i use is to breathe deeply, several deep, calm breaths, then i sight in on the deer where i want my bullet to go and exhale, but i don't inhale until after i make the shot. helps keep me steady. i don't mean i exhale and then wait thirty seconds to shoot, i mean i pick my spot get on it and as soon as i let that breath out i pull the trigger.

In my experience (I'm 24) it goes like this: When you start hunting (at whatever age) you get nervous all the time. You miss deer, and unfortunately wound them. It's a learning experience. Eventually, you get a few deer and you gain some confidence. Once you have that confidence that you can make the shot, you stop making those rookie mistakes like rushing the shot, aiming at the wrong place, drawing at the wrong time, etc.
Once the shot process becomes something you can do without thinking, you'll stop having that panic feeling because you know that you can do what it takes to get that deer.
