RE: shoot in the shoulders???
high shoulder shots normally anchor them on the spot. however i believe it mess's up too much meat. the only way i would take that shot is if it was the only shot i had. i always try to place my bullet behind the front shoulder and 1/3 up from the belly.

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
Double lung shot! Dont shoot through the shoulders unless you dont want too much meat. Double lung/heart shot and they shouldn't go too far.

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
.270 no problem. I perfer a double lung shot, less meat ruined that way.

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
Yes you could do it. If done correctly it could take out the front two legs. It is/was used on bears to stop or slow charges. If you really want to anchor them though you could just shoot the head with a Fail Safe or other bonded bullet. Also, a spine shot is one of the best anchoring shot on dangerous game.

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
Get a 7mm and shoot behind the shoulders in the lungs. Dead deer in its tracks.

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
well the reason i'm wondering is cause. i'm hunting on a 40 acre plot of land that is so thick and brushy that if i shot and it ran i would probably never find it. but does anyone have a good link to a shot placement site?? for whitetails???

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
A .270 will do it just fine. Last year, I hit a doe a little too far forward and it broke both front shoulders, but still got vitals. She went down like a rock, but I ruined a lot of meat......[:@]

RE: shoot in the shoulders???
ORIGINAL: timbercruiser .270 will handle it fine. I prefer a bonded bullet though. Like you, I had rather take out the lungs. |
RE: shoot in the shoulders???
just aim up higher from the shoulder about 3 inches under their back most the time the forse of the bullet itself will snap their back causing them no pain at all
