fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
Went out today to the woods and found out later when i got home, there was a deer tick with its head inside my belly skin. Managed to take it out along with the head, but there is a red swollen spot there. I need to find me some super sharp razors and cut that piece of skin out. i won't take any chances

My friend lost the use of his legs and was in a wheelchair for a couple of months due to lyme disease. If it was in for more than 24 hr.'s it's probably in your bloodstream. Get some antibiotics.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
I had a similar experience last season. I was in a state of panic, but the doctor told me not to worry unless I started experiencing Flu-like symptoms. so, I would say not too worry too much about it unless you start feeling bad in a few days.
The gotcha is, if you're gonna get Lyme, it's too late to torture yourself by cutting off portions of your body; the bad juju is already in your system. And, it stays there forever. Just see your doctor if you start feeling bad and get some antibiotics and you'll be fine. |
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
is it just a red spot or does it look like a bullseye around the area?
|
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
here in Florida the ticks are BAD. anytime you come in contact with a deer (field dressing) you're gonna get a tick or 12 on you. most of the time you can catch them crawling on you before they latch on but occaisionally you don't find one until you take a shower that night inwhich he has already latched on.

Just a red spot right now. Was in the woods for 3 hrs and found out when i got home. I took the tick out and that was like 3 hrs ago. Studies showed ticks have to latched onto for @ least 24-36 hrs before transmitting the disease so that's a relieft..

Don't worry about your tick bite, unless it starts to getinfected.I've had alot of ticks on over the summer and every summer for that matter! The bite area with stay a red bump for a week or so and it will itch, but if it starts to get infected, you should go to the DR!I wouldn't lose any sleep over it!

It's a tick man, you're not gonna fall over dead! |
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
I get ticks on me all the time in the woods while working, sometimes 5 or 6 of the buggers. I just pull them off and don't think anything about them. If it doesn't get larger then don't worry about it.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
We had a guy come down to our house in TN,from OH one summer to ride horses with us and he got a tick on him and it was stuck to him pretty good, and someone mentioned lyme disease to him and this man freaked out!I mean he had a full blown panic attack,we had to take him the the ER,we thought he was having a heart attack, but it was just a panic attack. We still laugh over that.

Souless,
Yeah he did. After spending 6 weeks at the Mayo clinic, looking for something neurological and having his house completely remodeled to accomodate a wheelchair, they finally checked for lyme disease and started him on antibiotics. He started getting feeling back immediately and eventually started walking again although he was in physical theropy for months after. That stuff is nothing to mess with. |
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
We do realize a the "deer tick" that carries lyme disease is the size of a pin head don't we. Chances are, you will see the bullseye before you see the tick, flu like symptoms is the key.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
When I got lyme a couple years ago I noticed it because of a lesion that went from the back of my neck{where the tick was}across my chest. You should see a change in the skin in the area and sometime you will feel like you have the flu,I never did feel sick and after 8 weeks of antibiotics everything was fine.Just keep an eye on it

Look for 2 small bumps to appear on your forehead near the hairline. Eventually they will grow & break thru. You should have a full set of antlers by Christmas.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
Some of you guys take that too seriously. I've had many ticks on me and never got anything from it. It's very rare to get lyme disease. It does happen, but very rare.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
Mosquito's carry maleria, so do you go crazy when you get bit by a mosquito?
|
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
I have two family members with lymes disease, once you get it, you have it, kind of like some STD's. Are you sure it was a Deer tick and not a wood tick? Deer ticks can bite and leave in a shorter time frame, if it was a wood tick, the dont tend to carry the disease. anyways good luck

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
when i first saw this thread, i missed the word "tick", and thought you got bit by a deer. that would have been a more interesting story :)
anyways, i am a tick survivor, without any lyme disease, and did remove it the wrong way, as i didnt know it was a tick at first and just ripped it out. just a red dot, and itched for a couple days. |
RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
I've probably had over 10 ticks that I've had to get out. They had their little heads in me sucking my blood away. I turned out fine. To anyone that got lyme disease, I'm sorry to hear that. It's very rare and you were in one of those rare cases. If I would ever get it, I'd probably go insane.

RE: fawk.. got bit by a deer tick!!!
Actually deer ticks dont normally on. They bite, and then fall off. A regular tick such as a wood tick will burrow its head under the skin. If it was indeed a deer tick, or if you are unsure, go in and get tested, but Ill have to tell you that Lymes will not show up right away so you might want to schedule a few different blood tests. Just becasue its a deer tick and you got bit, does not mean you will get lymes. only 4 out 10 people that get bit by deer ticks get lymes. Not all ticks are dirty. But you have to remember there are 3-5 other strains of lymes as well that you may acquire.
