I tried this last year and it turned out great. Thought somebody else would like to try it.
1. Put your latex gloves on & Cut the head off at base of neck
2. Start skinning and removing anything you can get to
3. Careful not to gouge or scrape the skull or rack
4. Remove eyes, ears, toungue (everything!)
5. The more you leave the more work later
6. Cut with a serated saw a line going back following the plane of the upper teeth
7. Remove the lower jaw after sawing and anything below
8. All you have left is the Rack andskull including the upper jaw
with as little meat as possible left
9. If your cut was good you could remove some brain tissue( be careful)
10.Get a turkey frier pan or half barrel of some type and fill with water
IMPORTANT( you probably will not want to use this pan for food again)
11. Use your propane burner to boil the water
12. After water is boiling adda box of rock salt and some dish soap
13. Put skull in water leaving the rack out of the boil
14. Boil for3 to 4 hours
15.When done, take skull to car wash and power off any remaining debris
16. Be careful especially around the nose area and cartilage
17. Dry with a cloth
18. Wrap tightly, only the skull (not rack) in strips of an old bed sheet
19. Soak the cloth in Hydrogen Peroxide (don't get on rack!)
20. Put in a trash bag and let set for 72 hours
21. Unwrap your masterpiece ( It's just like Christmas)

Go to a resale shop or look at garage sales. I'll be willing to bet you can find an old fish fryer or something that will work. This may sound a little time consuming but it's worth it just to say you did your own.

I am trying something this year, much less steps than this tho....
Wrapped the antlers in a Bag, and berried the head (whole)
Going to wait till August next year, and take it out of the ground, dip in Peroxide or Bleach, and hang on the wall....Done

I'm working on one right now, a buddy of mine got a doe last weekend and I offered to do it for him for practice. the thing is i'm in college so i dont have much time/space to work on it, so i took a half hour tonight and skinned the head as best i could on the tailgate of my truck then wrapped it back up in saran wrap and bagged it to prevent it from stinking up the back of my truck. Luckily it isnt too warm here so i'm not too worried about it rotting, i may take it up north this wknd and just let it sit in water for a few weeks then scrape off everything. it's a little tougher with antlers, but it'll be good practice.
