Take a look at the Mossberg 4X4. Great gun!

RE: Remington Model 770

personally, i would stay away from the 770. Like others said, i would look at Mossberg, Marlin or Savage. They are in that price range and maybe a bit cheaper and provide a better gun.

I went with a Savage package 110 as a back up gun to my M70 Winny. This gun is solid, shoots the lights out (compared to my M70) and has provided very reliable service for about $330 with a cheap scope already included).

When i was buying my backup gun i looked at the 710. A guy i hunt with is so pro-remmington that he suggested i go that route. After looking at the rifle, i had to laugh. I think it was a huge mistake on the part of remmy to make that thing. At first glance i thought it was a pellet gun based on the cheap plastic stock. The action was horrible. Its also had it's growing pains hence the 770 branding. IMO there is better out there in your price range.

ORIGINAL: ZEKE83

I bought the previous model called the 710. I liked it so much I bought another for my girlfriend. They are cheap because of the way the stock is manufactured, not because of the mechanical parts. This is a gun you wont mind beating the crap out of when your in the field, leave the wood stock for the gun case
Zeke,
I believe that is incorrect. read up on the receiver in this gun.
